Are our parents suppose to go with us? I need to know whether to book three plane tickets from Texas haha. If there are not, where are we suppose to be staying?

I'd say bring 1 parent. They can get a room at the Sheraton or Inn at Penn on campus, or in one of the CC hotels. It's helpful to have another set of eyes/ears accompanying you, so long as they're not domineering. You'll ditch them at dinner or w/e, but keep them around for the day and tours. In the days after Penn previews, either in deciding on a college or on a residence, it's really helpful to be able to talk to your parent and get some honest feedback.

If you think your parents might not let you make a fair decision, then feel free to ditch them (it's easy to get around without them). I wouldn't bring BOTH parents, as I personally feel that those situations create a totally different dynamic, and it goes from being a you decision to a family decision.

(I would say most people at previews my year brought a parent). If you've never traveled at all without a parent, this wouldn't be the best time to experiment...

oops doubled

haha k thanks! Do the future students stay in the dorms or.....?

they tour all the dorms and get a sample of what each college house looks like. i don't think you stay in them over night though.

IIRC, they have a very limited number of hosts available. I should explain more clearly - previews is really only a 1 day thing and you don't need to stay the night, per se

Is it possible to walk from the train station if I'm coming from NY?

Yes, absolutely. I've done it many times. It's a short walk, perhaps 7 minutes to campus.

Speaking of traveling, does the SEPTA coming from the airport take you directly to Penn's campus?

No, it takes you to the 30th street station. If you cut through Drexel, though, it's only about 12 minutes from Houston Hall at Penn.

that's not entirely true: if you get off at the "University City" stop (1 stop before 30th st.), you're very close to houston hall /college hall/ campus:

Also, mp: does it take 7 mins or 12 mins from the train station to campus? :-P

From the airport go to the ground transportation desk and ask for the Lady Liberty shuttle. It has door to door service in West Philadelphia for $10, and will take you to exactly where you need to go.

I know it's a one day thing, but just getting there and coming back from Texas takes one day haha.

I'm sure it's worse for others though so I'm not complaining! :)

7 minutes from 30th Street Station to campus, by which I mean the field in front of the Law School.

12 minutes if you're a n00b walking to Houston Hall and don't know what you're doing.

;)

Well considering I've never been to Philly, or on a plane for that matter, I'll be probably be a little lost. Do you think I'll be able to find my way, or should I just pay the extra money and get a taxi so that they bring me exactly where I need to go? Time won't be an issue because I'm my flight arrives at like 1030 and I don't have to be on campus til 4, but I was planning on probably taking a tour beforehand.

If you've got a little time, I would suggest taking the train from the airport to 30th st. station, and then walking or taking a cab over to campus. It'll let you see a little bit more and get a better feel for the area. Plus, you've got what, 2 months to memorize the directions?

I know that this is for Penn Previews but it can also be linked to Spring Fling.
If we have someone buy us a ticket, we can basically do whatever we want like everyone else at Penn? Would we be "out of place" so would it maybe be better if people going to Spring Fling as pre-frosh find a way to meet there?

when are penn previews?? or at least, when were they last year?
