***PENN REGULAR DECISION DISCUSSION CLASS OF 2019***

dcruz1 - Yes. My understanding is that the FASFA is used only for federal and state aid. The CSS Profile is used by schools who provide direct financial assistance (grants). I suggest that you contact the financial aid office to find out the best way to proceed. Perhaps they will still consider aid. I don’t know how firm they are on their deadlines. Good luck!

@dcruz1,

Well, it’s up in the air. They might state that if they loved you so much so as to admit you, they will have no qualms with providing the aid necessary for allowing you attend.

They may also say that if you were unable to follow the clear instructions that successfully completed by just about every other applicant, that they will have to stand firm on their deadline.

Normally, I would suggest that you call the financial aid office immediately and submit your forms, but due to the fact that they are likely finalizing the offers for all admitted students around this time, I doubt that they would actually manage to get to yours before the actual decision date.

As such, I believe that if you are admitted, it will be best to call immediately afterwards. It is possible that you may have to make a decision on Penn without necessarily having confirmation of what financial aid they are able to award you.

Also, even if Penn were to be kind and allow you to submit your forms and therefore receive aid, how were you able to apply for aid at any other college without a CSS Profile? FAFSA only covers federal aid, and most schools require at minimum, a completed Profile to make a decision on aid (and will usually ask for tax returns to be submitted with the Profile or shortly thereafter).

If you never submitted a Profile, how are you able to attend any school (i.e. if you stated that you needed aid, how would you get it?), and if you did submit a Profile, why did you believe that Penn would not want it?

@drcruz1, the same thing happened to us last year (my D is a freshman in the college.) We sent everything as soon as we found out and received a very generous aid package - get it in ASAP!

Did anyone get the email titled “Penn Regular Decision Notification Date” now?

Yep. It was short, and it just noted that they “enjoyed getting to know me.” Probably doesn’t mean anything though…

lol it means nothing. everyone (even the likely letter candidates) received the same mass email.

I figured nonetheless. I just want to avoid a repeat of the Vanderbilt thread where everyone was trying to figure out what their links meant.

Also, there was the Miami thread where everyone was trying to figure out the meaning of a green dot.

My favorite was the Uchicago thread where some folks began seeing an extra white space at the top of their account…completely blank…and somehow they determined that this had great meaning. So then the thousands of applicants who did not see a blank white space, became convinced that they were not admitted. At first it was funny but as the hours went by, it became hilarious.

p.s. no correlation was ever determined.

I got an email about an hour ago from Penn about the decision release date!!! It’s on the 31st, ofc, but that friendly reminder just gave me some extra nerves :3

One of the Vanderbilt Links did lead me to my decision about 4 hours earlier than expected…

I got the same email… the day is getting close

But if you don’t get the email does it mean you are denied?

No.

^^No, it just means you either did not apply or the email went to your spam folder.

@SouthernHope‌ hahah, I was one of those guys who badwaggoned on the belief of the sacred “white line.” Happy that I had the white line, but I wasn’t happy when I was rejected.

yes, I did

does anyone receive that “enjoyed to know about you” email?

yep I got that email

Any other deffered ED in the discussion?

My son was deferred in the ED round. Although he was disappointed for a day or two, he bounced back. The deferral gave him an opportunity to pick up admissions to several great schools, including a scholarship to our flagship state university honors programs. Things work out.
