***PENN REGULAR DECISION DISCUSSION CLASS OF 2019***

It was a generic email. I guess everyone got it.

@Bored1997 don’t take it to heart Penn Rd is gonna be even more of a crapshoot this year (will prob have a 6.6-6.8 acceptance rate) and m&t is by far the most competitive program to get into at Penn. Good thing is that if it doesn’t work out you could either get into wharton or seas and then try again for m&t at the end if freshman year. And if that doesn’t work out either you could do an uncoordinated degree between Seas and Wharton. Good luck!!!

@Penn95 Yeah, I should have applied ED, Penn is my top choice anyway. Now though I am hoping to get into my third choice major at CMU, atleast then I would be somewhere I am happy.

Applied to Wharton and only Wharton (for UPenn schools). If I don’t get in, I’d be devastated.

@jpd211‌ I was deferred early decision and couldn’t be more nervous

@PennAlumParent‌ Did he submit an update? I’m not sure how much that will help but I’ve been doing so much work since applying ED, but I read online that it won’t hurt…

@jpd211 ED Deferred here, did you submit an update? Also, what school?

@Backshe9 same thing as well. what school do you want?

@above1960‌ Yes, he submitted a supplement. Submitting one can’t hurt. His supplement was in a form of a letter to Admissions pointing out his continued good grades, a recent good athletic result in a national competition (but he’s not an athletic recruit), and his thoughts on a recent 4-day spiritual retreat he took as part of a senior program at his school (he attends a Jesuit high school). The retreat was the subject of his essay, where appropriate, at all the other schools he applied RD.

@above1960‌ I applied to CAS and I feel like there’s such a small percentage of us deferred candidates that get in that I have no chance

I didn’t apply ED, but Penn’s deferred acceptance rate was around 12% last year while it’s overall acceptance rate was 10%. Don’t lose hope!

@Backshe9‌ Yeahh me too. I’m SEAS. The way I see it, if I was barely good enough with an acceptance rate of 22%, there’s no way I’m gonna make it ina pool of less than 7% accepted…

@above1960‌ Applied for wharton, and I did submit an update

@Backshe9‌ @above1960‌ Also SEAS deferral without too much hope. I figure whatever the actual acceptance rate is for SEAS RD is skewed in favor of women and disfavor of men.

So what do you guys think the overall acceptance rate will be this year?

So I plotted the acceptance rates along with their years in my calculator and did a quartreg with the data points and got around 7.8% acceptance rate, which seems reasonable because of the 2000 application increase this year. Give or take maybe .5%.

Hey y’all SEAS applicant here  This projected 7.8 acceptance rate sounds brutal

Hey guys so I need some major help and I need your opinions!!! I was accepted into NEOMED- which is a 6 year med program- you do two years of undergrad and then 4 years of medical school- you have a guaranteed medical seat- do u think I should take this offer over an acceptance into an Ivy League undergrad?

@Hersheybar315‌ I definitely would personally since it is so hard to get into medical school these days but it all depends if you want the normal college experience of 4 years or you don’t care about that— try making a pro con list they help me with everything. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Backshe9 thanks so much for your advice! Actually that is my main concern- I really want that four year college experience which I will never get again in life- but I know getting a medical seat is so difficult nowadays- thanks so much and good luck to you too in your future endeavors!
