***PENN REGULAR DECISION DISCUSSION CLASS OF 2019***

Penn admitted 55% of the class ED but they knew their yield would be 100% since ED is binding. I assume they will offer acceptances to more in the RD round because 35-40% of those admitted will turn them down.

Last year, Penn accepted about 2400 applicants in the RD round to complete the rest of the class (and had a RD yield rate of about 47%). They’ll probably accept a similar number of RD applicants this year, albeit from a larger applicant pool than last year’s.

The RD yield is a lot lower than I thought so that is good news for those hoping for a spot!

@Lkjh0987 “The RD yield is a lot lower than I thought so that is good news for those hoping for a spot!”

With some students applying to 20 different schools, I think that Penn getting 1/2 of their regular decision admits to enroll is amazing!

@Much2learn, it’s one of the highest RD yields among the highly selective schools. Only a very few schools such as Harvard, MIT, etc. have higher RD yields.

The wait is a killer :’(

@jamesjunkers There’s something intangible that I like about waiting. It’s like I can finally relax after doing so many applications and not think about which college I’m going to choose at the moment. Just focus on school. And I just like imagining myself at all the different schools I applied to.

@ilovethecity‌ I don’t feel the same way. The wait is killing me and not letting me concentrate on any schoolwork. :frowning:

Yeah, imagining myself at all of my schools makes me feel even worse - getting let down sucks

Uhhh so I totally didn’t submit anything financial aid related. I’m not going to get need-based aid anyway, but will not turning in the forms hurt my chance of admission?
Oops

@marshmallowpop I don’t think that will affect admissions… I didn’t submit any of that either.

Admissions and financial aid are completely separate, don’t worry. And this is my 1000th post. Yay(?) lol

Don’t get too relaxed applicants. When Ivy Day hits, you will have scramble to book flights to admitted student days. Penn’s did a really great job of their “Quaker Days.” It was well worth attending and was a first opportunity for DD to meet some of the other admits of the entering class. She had to take a week off from school so she could attend Quaker Days and a similar event at another school. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Scramble!

Hey guys, about two weeks ago I sent an email to my regional team and got no answer… Should I be worried? Should I call them?

@Wells14, if it’s a simple question, calling admissions is always faster

Hello guys, I’m also applying RD to Penn this year. Since I submitted my Common App, I’ve had some accomplishments that I’d like to let the admission committee know. Normally, there should be a resume upload space on the status portal for this. However, mine doesn’t have one. So whom should I contact to notify of these updates? I’d really appreciate the help!

@PKMGSoledad When DS emailed his regional rep he got an automated response that said:
“If your email contained any application documents or materials, please email those directly to documents@admissions.upenn.edu.”

@Much2learn haha, yeah that’ll happen if we get into any of the ivies

@Much2learn, I’d love to have that problem…

So…I heard likely letters came out?? :open_mouth:
