Penn releases numbers: RD applications go up

^ That's just wonderful... Penn is notorious for filling up its classes with a lot of ED'ers and being SUPER selective RD. I knew I should have considered applying ED! Oh well.

Also, if Penn's acceptance rate for RD is going to down from last year's anyway, then why are so many people concerned with the lack of a huge increase in the applicant pool's size? If it's prestige you're after, low acceptance rates go a long way.

who cares? seriously

Haha, probably because acceptance rates aren't gonna go down as much as elsewhere. I'm an applicant this year though, sooo :P

I am a Questbridge applicant to Penn. A previous poster said that Penn admitted 26 out of the 220 applicants, what year is this figure referring to?

^^ This year I believe. But that was the early batch I think?

Yes, that number refers to the early batch.

They could actually have higher acceptance rates this year if they are anticipating lower yield due to the economy compelling more students to opt for cheaper public schools

Dollars and Sense | Effect of recession on college applications numbers not yet clear - News

im surprised that people are complaining that apps are down this year. THAT IS A GOOD THING. it means its easier for current applicants, which many of you are, to get in. why is everyone "disappointed" that they went down?? like someone earlier said, when you have 20,000+ applicants, you can be as selective as you want and still get an amazing class. 22000 really isnt gonna change much.

and as far as PR goes, idk why all the ivy leagues even bother. EVERYONE knows they are there, do they really need to send out all the mail? i think penn is doing the right thing: saving the environment and not wasting people's time.

i dont think that many people even know penn is ivy...

lol i agree with quakeroats...whenever i say to someone, "o, I applied to penn also"..they respond, "o, good for u that u applied to PENN STATE"...sdkdsjsfaskdfdsfdsjkfjk. really annnoying

yeah, 90% of people think penn is penn state

are muerte and eatyourcereal dating in real life?

yes

the two biggest trolls on collegeconfidential: a match made in heaven (aka penn)

do anybody have exact numbers for applications?
I know Wharton numbers went down, and CAS went way up and total admissions pretty much remained stagnant.

Is there any numbers that can back these up?

No, not numbers that are known to the public anyway... sometimes they give more clues when announcing the overall acceptance rate from which you can extrapolate, but we'll have to wait a couple months for those...

muerteapablo: You're just too cool for school.

Anyway, CU4l I saw that you got into Penn Nursing and I congratulate you! I have the awful feeling that apps for Penn CAS were ridiculously voluminous so I'm not really hopeful for an acceptance.
It's funny how CAS is less "prestigious" than Wharton, and yet may well be more/similarly competitive this year.
