Penn SAT

Im a junior, just took the sat in november. I got a 700 reading, 760 math, 800 writing. Would it be a good idea to retake it to improve my reading? is 700 low for penn? would it hurt my chances to retake?

If you think you can improve your score the you should retake. I mean it is decent score 2260. It will definetly improve your chances if you get a better score, but 2260 in no way will knock you out of the running and SAT score is only a fraction of your application.

Doing the SAT a second time can help your score and usually doesn’t hurt your chances. I took my first SAT in Dec 2010 as a junior, got a 2240, took it again in Mar 2011, got a 2330 - it didn’t hurt my chances (accepted SEAS).

Don’t take it like four or five times though. If you score lower the second or third time, consider sticking with the 2260. It’s a good enough score.

Your score is fine. If you look here: [Penn Admissions: Incoming Class Profile](http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/profile/) you fall on the higher end of the middle 50%. Perhaps increasing your reading a bit would help, but you shouldn’t lose sleep over it.

I’ve heard Dean Furda say that if you’re within the middle-50% range for Penn (as indicated on the page linked by our friend dfree124, above), don’t worry about taking the test again. He indicated that they’d much rather see you devote more time to your classes and ECs than to trying to raise your scores any further.
