Penn should change its name!

Ok, who’s with me? I really like Penn and the ONLY bad thing people say about it is that its name sounds like a certain other type of school (that shall remain nameless!) and therefore Penn is like a state school.

I think Penn’s already uber high prestige would go up even higher if they changed the school’s name to Franklin or some other rich benefactor.

What say ye?

Yeah. Everyone I talk to thinks it's a state school. Let's name it Walmart U

That other school should change its name... penn is our name.

It doesn't matter. The people who dont know that UPenn isn't the same thing as Penn state already think that Penn state is ivy league. So you're safe no matter what! :) Think positive...think positive...

Oh, yeah, i just got rejected from yale

lets just change it to Wharton University.

I was thinking about that, but why? First and foremost, Wharton is a boring name. Secondly, that demeans all the other (equally) important parts of the school!

no Wharton is the only important part. lol

you'll understand once you're here.

Wharton the only important part?

I suggest you look at an income breakdown of students 20 years after graduation, bern.

god people here are way too uptight - I'M JUST JOKING AROUND.

Wharton kids knock the other schools
The other school knock Wharton

It's all in good fun.

Still, college is better. We all know that. We are the lazy philosophers, you the greedy bastards without morals.

me a greedy bastard without morals!!!!

exactly.

Wharton is the only reason Penn should be in the ivy league.

haha j/k :). Congrats to all you new '09 Pennsters/Whartonites (is that the proper term?)

I think Penn is just fine as a name. The people who worry about recognition of the school name should yield the following advice which I was told a while back:

"The people who need to know, will know."

Congratulations and best of luck to all acceptees and prospectives.

Mark

Having to correct where you went to school (Nope, not Happy Valley) is one of the things you just have to endure as a Penn student and alum. Lived in Pennsylvania for years, and I can tell you that you guys are outnumbered!!

here we go again. there was a massive thread on the old forum about what to change the name of Penn to.

way to make it gloomy ivyboy. Ha. Yeah, someone at my school was shocked when I said Penn is ivy league and I may apply. They felt that our school was great, considering we send about 50% of our students to an Ivy league school or satellite campus of an Ivy League school (In reference to Penn state).

ha ha. but yeah i know what u mean... like i live in PA and when i tell people that i got into penn i HATE it when theyre like "awesome! main campus?" and im like NOOOoo NOT PSU... also, everyone in wharton is very arrogant about it. one of my friends in huntsman is from india and hes like "if u tell anyone in the world.. i go to penn... they wont know what ur talking about, but if you say WHARTON... apparently theyll like drool. and theres a whole wharton section in the penn book store. and i wandered into lipincott the other day and couldn't go on a computer w/out a wharton id. i was like hmm this is hardcore

On the name:

Penn has been actively working to claim Penn as a brand name the last couple of years.

They started out with U-PENN, then removed the U on all publications to just read PENN.

And now,a few years later they changed it again. Every publication and insignia item reads Penn with non-caps.

I'd say that is a quite clear marketing strategy to stake the name Penn.

i like just "penn"
penn state should just be called psu. pronounced puhsoo

Oatmeal University, (think about it)
