Ok, who’s with me? I really like Penn and the ONLY bad thing people say about it is that its name sounds like a certain other type of school (that shall remain nameless!) and therefore Penn is like a state school.

I think Penn’s already uber high prestige would go up even higher if they changed the school’s name to Franklin or some other rich benefactor.

It doesn't matter. The people who dont know that UPenn isn't the same thing as Penn state already think that Penn state is ivy league. So you're safe no matter what! :) Think positive...think positive...

I was thinking about that, but why? First and foremost, Wharton is a boring name. Secondly, that demeans all the other (equally) important parts of the school!

I think Penn is just fine as a name. The people who worry about recognition of the school name should yield the following advice which I was told a while back:

"The people who need to know, will know."

Congratulations and best of luck to all acceptees and prospectives.

Having to correct where you went to school (Nope, not Happy Valley) is one of the things you just have to endure as a Penn student and alum. Lived in Pennsylvania for years, and I can tell you that you guys are outnumbered!!

way to make it gloomy ivyboy. Ha. Yeah, someone at my school was shocked when I said Penn is ivy league and I may apply. They felt that our school was great, considering we send about 50% of our students to an Ivy league school or satellite campus of an Ivy League school (In reference to Penn state).

ha ha. but yeah i know what u mean... like i live in PA and when i tell people that i got into penn i HATE it when theyre like "awesome! main campus?" and im like NOOOoo NOT PSU... also, everyone in wharton is very arrogant about it. one of my friends in huntsman is from india and hes like "if u tell anyone in the world.. i go to penn... they wont know what ur talking about, but if you say WHARTON... apparently theyll like drool. and theres a whole wharton section in the penn book store. and i wandered into lipincott the other day and couldn't go on a computer w/out a wharton id. i was like hmm this is hardcore
