Penn State Acceptance?

Do you think i will be accepted into Penn State, University Park?

i have a 3.12 Cumulative GPA right now as a Junior and it is rising. On the SAT's i scored a 1230 on the 1600 scale and 1750 on the 2400 scale, with a 560 in reading, a 670 in math, and a 520 in writing but i am hoping to score higher in every section because i have only taken it once. i also will have taken two AP classes and one honors class in highschool. I will also have 4 season of Junior Varsity sports and 3 seasons on varisty. Also my dad is a donating alumni to the school.

Do i have a good chance of acceptance? I am also looking into doing a summer school at penn state which will hopefully strengthen my chances of acceptance.

i’m sorry to say, but I don’t think your chances are too high. I know someone with a 3.2 UW GPA, 2120 SAT, and 6 AP classes that was rejected from University Park. But still, focus on improving your SAT and your chances will improve.

I think you have a fair shot, I was just recently accepted and have similar credentials. Only my SAT scores weren’t as strong, I don’t have a donating alumni parent, nor did I ever do any summer programs at University Park. However, I was very involved in clubs and varsity sports. Good luck! I think you have a good chance.

Your GPA is lowish for Penn State.

27% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
30% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
26% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49

So, over 80% have a higher GPA…that suggests that those who have a lower GPA are athletes or something like that.

Your GPA may be “rising” but it would be hard to increase it enough by the time of admission decisions.

Kag…what was your GPA and what was your SAT breakdown? Are you a URM?

You have a pretty good chance!
I wasn’t accepted into University Park but I was accepted into the DuBois Campus.
My GPA is like a 3.3 and I got a 1480 on my SAT so you should have a better chance than me. But I also was involved in sports, volunteer, work and AP classes, and other community college course classes…but also maybe apply to one of the smaller campuses? You will have a better chance. Everyone transfers to University Park anyway, so you will go there soon if you really want to :)
