I applied to Penn State and had all of the pieces of my application submitted a few weeks ago. I have a pretty strong transcript and seem to be well above average from the middle 50% of those who apply. My status just changed from "Please check back for updates" to "We are reviewing your credentials, A decision will be available as soon as one is made." Does this mean that I could see a decision fairly soon? I've heard of people getting accepted as early as the end of October.

Maybe. Usually the very top 10% hear in October or November.
You may have that message close to the end of January.
We didn’t hear until sometime in January. Applied by Oct 1. last year.

A person came into school today and said he got his admission. He said he submitted in Sept. He is definitely top 10% candidate.

I sent my application on 10/28 and made sure counselor had everything sent over, SAT there already and received my acceptance to Univ Park the following week. On another thread they said sometimes they go by majors. I applied for Engineering.

It truly depends. And that answer stinks of course. There are some people who’ve heard back immediately, and others who applied Sept. 1 who won’t hear until January. It seems somewhat random, but it does seem to be dependent on major and GPA. If you have a really strong application, my guess is you will hear back pretty quickly.

my daughter submitted her application on Oct. 31, after making sure they had all of her transcripts and test scores. She got her acceptance via email yesterday. She applied to the liberal arts school. Many of her friends that applied to the business school and other majors have not heard. Several people who applied “undecided” have been told that that can cause a delay in hearing back. (not that it is a bad thing, just that it takes longer to get a response). Good luck!

My application was considered complete on November 5th and I heard back around 10 days after (accepted). My stats were around the mid-50% mark for both GPA and SAT.

@confusedparent15 that’s interesting to hear. My D applied DUS and i didn’t know that can cause delays. It’s a good thing to keep in mind!
