So, I was accepted here.

Tell me about it. Especially, in the form of a comparison to University Park. Additionally, also tell me how the rural environment will affect an individual who wants to study while enjoying the city life.

Tell me about it. Especially, in the form of a comparison to University Park. Additionally, also tell me how the rural environment will affect an individual who wants to study while enjoying the city life.

I don’t know much about Altoona, but I must say that I wouldn’t consider State College to be city life. It is basically a college town.

Altoona is more of a city than State College but it isn’t much. If you want to study in a city, neither Altoona nor University Park will suit you

Well then, what would you consider the advantages of University Park in comparison to Altoona or vice-versa?

UP is bigger version of Altoona. UP is it’s own city, but not a true city that you have in mind. Once you leave that area the is nothing around it.

Neither is a true city like Philly/Pittsburgh/Allentown/etc. However University Park/State College has all of the provisions you’d need in a normal city (walmart/target/a mall/plenty of grocery stores/best buy/etc) just in the middle of PA. The entire city of State College is built around the university and everything that goes on here essentially revolves around PSU. The two places aren’t very comparable, in my opinion.

So, my offer to transfer to UP was just rejected. So, how do I prepare for Altoona? Fill me in with its advantages and disadvantages in comparison to UP.

Mewaryk, did you ask to go to UP for the summer?

Yes

I have already sent two messages, so I’m cautious about sending another one, anyway. Dunno what to do now…

And they said no even with the summer program?

Yes.

“Unfortunately, a summer start would not be an option either”

What college were you applying to? What are your stats?

College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (although, I’m note even sure about that anymore)
SAT - 1900
GPA - Not given
Rank - Not given

Essay - Great
Recommendation Letters - Great
Predicted Grades - Mediocre

Ok. sorry. I know of a few that did get in the summer after being accepted at a branch. Then also a few that didn’t even get summer when they chose summer or branch as an option.

Why did you not supply rank and GPA?

My conclusions why:

There are different requirements to get into UP than at branch campuses. That is normal and understood.
When you apply and your stats are borderline, and you are not necessarily the best candidate at the time for UP, they seem to throw those people into branch campuses without completely rejecting them from PSU.

Be happy, this is still pretty great…it may not feel like it but, it is better then not being given a chance at all!

Then, there are those that are so close that they could get into UP, but did not choose summer but chose a branch campus. Those ended up in a branch. If they had chosen summer session, they most likely would have gotten in for summer. Those that went back and asked that their application be reconsidered for summer got in if they were that close.

Then, there are those that absolutely need a branch campus to start to prove to PSU that they will be able to handle Main once they decide to transfer in junior year.

I sent transcripts instead. Can you enroll in Altoona and then, eventually, transfer to UP? When and how does that take place?
