Anyone considering a BA in theatre? My S has been accepted there along with Point Park. We are going to the admitted student days at each in early April. Curious as to whether anyone else is considering has looked at PSU. He is torn right now between the two schools -- preferring the BFA at Point Park and some of the vibe he got but at the same time preferring the environment and campus at PSU. Being further away from home probably helps.

Anyone lurking that has been through either program?

I’m seriously considering it. If I don’t get into any BFAs (other than Marymount, which I’ve been accepted to) I’m thinking PSU will be my school. I loooove the school as a whole, and while I have a few concerns regarding the intensity of the program, the faculty seemed interested in my playwriting at my audition and it appeared that I’d be able to combine acting and writing (AND put up some of my own work.) any info on the program would be much appreciated!

Are you going to the admitted student day in early April? My son will be there. As a parent, I like some of the flexibility offered by a BA but my son says that is because I have no understanding of fine arts (which is true).

I’m pretty new to posting so I’m not quite at 15 yet. Unfortunately, I can’t attend admitted students day because it interferes with my final rehearsals before the Spring musical. Your son’s response to the BA may depend on whether he wants a more traditional training or not. Personally, I prefer a more well rounded theatre education than solely actor training, and the BFAs I applied to (and PSU) reflect that– but your son may feel differently. Still have some questions about the program, though!

I happened to be on a long drive this weekend, listening to podcasts to pass the time. If you are seriously considering PSU, you should listen to the 2011 (this is pre-scandal) podcast on Penn State by This American Life.
