You have a very competitive stats for Penn State. Maybe they are doing yield protection?
Schreyer honors is quite competitive and based on more than stats; essays, recommendations, optional interview are important. Penn State gives very little merit (or need-based) aid, even to high stats students. Penn State isn’t doing yield protection.
Unfortunately, this has happened for my daughter at several schools. Her essays are great too. Such a hard year for her and all of her hard work over 4 years.
Congratulations to your D for narrowing the field. My D’s not ready to decline any offer yet.
Mine has narrowed it down to 5. Yesterday she declined the ones that aren’t even in that top 5. PSU is so financially out of reach, even with their merit scholarship they gave her. She knew there would be no way she’d be going. And due to how many are waiting to hear we didn’t feel it wasn’t fair to hold the spot.
Similar here. Will ask DS to reject the offer from PSU soon so those on the waiting list can get the their result sooner.
Yes, we had a family discussion last night and PSU is the highest financially and so I’m 95% sure he’ll be declining it this week.

I think my son will be rejecting his offer today, so hopefully this will open up another spot as well. Best of luck to everyone, no matter what school you will be attending
I’m rejecting my offer too
The lack of any scholarship money just made the decision much easier for us. Just couldn’t justify the cost when he had other offers.
I got into Penn State DuBois for 2+2 with no money whatsoever. As an OOS, it would’ve been the same cost for one year as it would be for one year at UDel. Chose UDel instead.
My son declined his offer today as well, best wishes to all the future enrollees
Did I see you on the UGA thread as well? Where did your son decide to go?
Still undecided, but he’s between Maryland, Indiana and Purdue right now. So we decided since he was so sure those were his top 3 it was the right thing to do to let the others go.
Same here. UGA was his first choice. My other son is a sophomore there and they wanted to be in school together for a couple of years. However, since he didn’t get in we are shifting gears and he is probably going to stay closer to home (we are in NY). He liked Penn State, but it was also not one of his top choices, so basically, he didn’t like it enough to justify the cost . I wish your son all the best, they are all great schools.
