Since Smeal is a very large college, why is it more competitive? It does not have direct admit like its peers IU-Bloomington.
When my daughter was accepted to Liberal Arts 2 years ago, she heard on Dec 18. So thereās still plenty of time to hear back!
Yes - OOS applied for Anthropology/History. Heard within 3 weeks.
Congrats!
Yes. From NJ. My son was accepted a few weeks ago. Applied mid-August
Not sure if this means anything but next week (Thursday, Dec 9th) PSU has 11 out of the 12 colleges hosting virtual 'accepted students" events. Is it possible that decisions will be coming in the next week?? Boy, do I hope!
Has PSU historically offered accepted student virtual events close to decision releases?
Hopefully they do let a release out soon. Iām sure the waiting is difficult!
I donāt think those dates are related to any pending decisions. Those accepted student events have been on the calendar for a while. My DS was accepted in early November and has received multiple emails about the Dec. 9th date.

out of state (NY) applying to university park. private high school. 32 ACT, 103.79 weighted I believe 96/97 unweighted. many other girls from my school applied far later than I did and heard back within 1 week, with far worse stats. applied as a premedicine major and I have not heard back even though I applied October 6. Penn State was one of my safeties and now I am panicking? has anything else similar happened to others? when would my decision come out by? I see the decision date as 12/24, but could I expect it before mid December?
Iām sure you could hear before but everything I read says you will hear by 12/24.
From their website:
To apply Early Action, students must submit a complete application (the application itself and the Self- Reported Academic Record [SRAR]) must be received by the deadline of November 1. If opting to include standardized test results (official scores from either the SAT or ACT) must also be received by the deadline of November 1.
Students applying Early Action will receive a decision by December 24 and will be part of the early financial aid awarding process beginning in mid-February if Penn State has received the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by December 1. Possible decisions for Early Action qualified applicants will be 1) admit; 2) deferral of decision to the November review group (see below); or 3) denial of admission.
Note that āpremedicineā is a bad major if you want to go to med school - med schools want a REAL major (bio behavioral health for instance, or Immunoligy&Infectious Disease or Biological Anthropology) PLUS the premed pre-reqs. That major is a shortcut for kids who canāt handle both a major and the pre-reqs so med schools dontlike it.
Hearing early means nothing btw: they say youāll hear by the end of this month, so donāt panic. Have you heard from your other safety? Any EA app?
I think itās best to respond with constructive feedback without the infusion of personal judgment.
