Penn State DISCUSSION THREAD Fall 2022 Admission

Thank you. My SRAR was a few days later, my application status showed complete before Dec 1 definitely . I am thinking if I did not make the Nov 1 EA deadline I should be in the other batch of applications, submitted by Dec 1 then.
According to penn state website, applications submitted by Dec 1 will get decision by Jan 31. Is there anyone who completed application in Nov still waiting for the decision?

Anyone hear from the Architecture program? OOS accepted to Engineering program today. Higher stat twin still in evaluation. Both applied EA.

My S was accepted in DUS. He wants to change into Engineering. Do you recommend trying to do this before he starts or can you get into the engineering school easily from DUS?

Congrats! When did you find out? Just this morning?

We known about his acceptance for a while but he just recently wanted to switch in Engineering.

In that case, I would definitely call admissions and ask whatā€™s going on with your application.

no reason to switch to Engineering. He may not be able to do the switch now anyway.

All classes for Engineering can be taken from PMAJ_DUS (pre-major DUS) as well as PMAJ_ENG (pre-major Engineering). He isnā€™t ā€œinā€ the major until he has completed ETM (entrance to major) requirements with a certain GPA and is in the credit window. Donā€™t rock the boat - just stay in DUS.

I just did, thank you! Apparently they are waiting for the Athletic department confirmation, as I am also coming in as an athlete, so will circle back with the coach on that again.

Portal changed to state:
Your application has been updated. Please check back soon for a status update.
The portal also has information for campus and academic info.

What does this mean? TIA.

Perhaps Financial Aid? D22ā€™s financial aid statement is now available - received an email at 6:43p

OOS or instate?

Assume instate by your name.

My son also got the email with the subject financial aid.
No scholarship. Letter talks about Stafford loan for $5500.

OOS student

Thatā€™s standard for Penn State, whether the student is instate or OOS. Penn State gives very few merit awards or institutional need-based grants.

I agree with @kidzncatz

They have a merit scholarship for Penn state Schreyer honors college at UP and other regional campuses also have merit. Just search on google for ā€œPenn state merit scholarshipsā€.

Also, I believe students can apply if they are a national merit finalist

Thanks. We are not disappointed at all. It is on expected lines. Just wanted to give a status update. With all the deferrals and waitlisted craziness going on, happy for the admission at UP.

My daughter got into Aerospace Engineering at CU Boulder but only 2+2 Birks at PennState. As an aerospace program, Boulder is much better - ranked in top 10 (plus she got into her major directly), but as a university PennState is better with the exception that it is better for UP and not Birks. Still waiting in Virginia Tech and Maryland. Got into ASU and Iowa. All OOS for us. Tuition similar.

What would you do? Any recommendations? Not sure how to make the call here.

Thanks!

For OOS, Iā€™m not sure Iā€™d be interested in Berks, since itā€™s far away from the main campus. CU Boulder is good, with plenty of job opportunities, and in a nice college town. Iā€™d hold off on making a decision until hearing from Virginia Tech and UMD.

Is proximity to home a consideration?

I would consider boulder and wait for Virginia tech. 2+2 out of state would not be worth it to me.
