Penn State DISCUSSION THREAD Fall 2022 Admission

Thanks
Are those GPA numbers weighted or unweighted? And is a 1340 SAT middle 50% or upper 25%?

Is anyone getting an error when logging into MyPennState?

Yes, just got an error message

I have a question about GPA. My daughter attended 2 high schools, and they calculated GPA very differently. Is your GPA range listed based on a standard 4.0 scale? Does Penn State convert the GPAs?

Yes, my friend got his. Very high stats

Both gpa around 3.8 (out of 4) and 1390/1400 SAT

How about those that applied “Rolling” in mid August?

The wait is killing me…daughter 3.958, AA degree, high school in 3 years, 3 sports, + football manager, NHS vice president, no driking and driving club President, Prom Committee, Student Council, Mentor/Match program, etc…

My daughter applied 8/3. Close friend applied 11/1 and has her decision. But she has higher stats, and not a Nursing applicant which I know is always darn near last.

Mine applied Criminology. And is out of state. She is the only person in her school to have done the Common App in the last 10 years so this is stressful.

Just emailed yesterday about this. Here was the response today:

“ Hello xxxxxxx,”

Thank you for your email.

If your application was complete before the November 1st deadline your application will be considered for Early Action no matter what you selected on the application.

If you have any other questions feel free to reach out.

Best,
Yyyyyyyy”

No, they require a 2nd campus choice.

Seriously? Common Ap is so, well, COMMON anymore. Most schools accept it.

And it depends on the major selected. Some majors will take longer to figure out admissions.

Small school in northern Minnesota. Graduating class of 60, only 43% of those kids take ANY college class after high school. In the 20 years I have taught there only about 5 kids have even attended a Division I school.

Wow! Has she run the NPC on Grinnell, Sewanee or St Lawrence? They’re not D1 colleges but topnotch schools with excellent financial aid that value kids from rural communities. Worth running the NPC on (net price calculator).
UAlabama is D1 and has excellent merit scholarships. UMaine would match your instate costs.
(If you have 200K for college, this won’t matter but PSU is NOT generous so you’d have to be able to fund the full costs minus 5K if she gets into Schreyer - absolutely apply - and federal aid. Provost, Millenium, or For The Glory scholarships are pretty uncommon.)

She is going based on program. She has applied to tier one Criminology programs as she wants to be a Criminal Profiler. And we support her 1000%

She has applied to a couple of top rated Criminology colleges in the DC area that have near to full scholarships offers on the table.

Wow! Including the U of M in that small list of D1 attendees?

Fellow MN mom here (Twin Cities suburbs).
