Penn State has joined other schools in holding courses at all campuses as online instruction through at least April 6 (currently it is on Spring Break)
All student led events are cancelled or postponed. All sporting events will be limited to spectators in obvious categories (parents, coaches, media) no public attendance.
Offices and staff will be coming in ; dormitories and food service will be closed except for students who are already on campus due to various circumstances ( I imagine mostly international students). Students are strongly discouraged from coming back to off campus housing as well.
Accepted student events between now and April are cancelled, as are appointments, tours, etc. You can read all this in many many places but the details are evolving.
Since local school districts are closing too, many staff will be working from home. Please be patient if you are reaching out to the university as response times may be a tad slower than normal.
Should be very interesting to see what happens. I can’t imagine the coronavirus threat will quickly pass and things will return to normal by April 2. My guess is they will be online until the end of the semester. PSU and all schools are about to learn valuable new lessons, and will be better prepared for the next time, which will undoubtedly come.
Since D was accepted starting in summer, will be very interesting to see how this all plays out. What is the benefit of summer session if you can’t live on campus? I would think online classes might be even more intimidating for first-time students without the social and academic support system the on-campus summer session would provide.
Praying that this thing peters out without causing too much harm, that we find effective treatments and a vaccine, and that things return to normal soon. We have certainly entered a new paradigm.
