Wondering is anyone is familiar with the For the Glory Program that Penn State is hosting. My daughter and will be traveling from SC to attend. Is this a new program? If it isn’t new, could you share your experience when you attended. Feel free to private message me.
It is a new program, very small number of students and invitation-only. Blue-ribbon tours, mock classroom experience , etc. My impression (I know a few locals invited) is they are trying to do something geared for high-achievers who may be undecided or maybe not intending to apply to Schreyer (the honors college). And am I correct in that you get to stay at the Inn, for free? Wowza…
@greenbutton It’s a comprehensive schedule and includes on night at the Penn Stater. Hoping for good weather - any temp above 32 is good! I don’t know how many students have been invited. I think this trip will help my daughter and I decide between Penn State and her other top choice. I grew up in PA but have lived in SC for quite a few years.
Anyone else going tomorrow? We have about a 4 hour drive — hoping the weather isn’t too bad.
How did you all get invited and what major is it for? I received my decision in early December and heard absolutely nothing about this program. I feel like this is going to hold me back from Millennium and Schreyer. Did your students apply to these programs? I have a 1490 SAT (790 M) and I feel unwanted.
^ the program if I understand correctly is for kids NOT applying to Schreyer or Millennium scholar.
@MYOS1634, I was just there and have applied for Schreyer, as well as many others I talked to. I assume it’s the same case for Milennium, although I didn’t apply for that because I don’t qualify.
@KG5APR I’m not really sure how we were selected. I’m thinking that it was based on your ranking and strength within your particular college. My SAT was lower than yours, but are you in a major like engineering or some other sort of math/science? I’m Arts and Architecture so I might be higher ranking within that relative to where you are in your college due to average accepted GPA and stuff. There seemed to be a fair spread of students representing all colleges, so it’s likely that that’s how they selected.
@KG5APR Also no, didn’t apply for the program, I just got an email around Dec 22-23 telling me I was invited. Also, don’t worry about it setting you back for Schreyer. I was told there were about 180 people there and if theoretically every single one of us got into Schreyer, there would still be ~120 spots left, considering they take around 300 for incoming freshmen. Good GPA and writing would make you a contender.
does anyone who went know what the criterion for getting invited was? I was accepted to Penn State for business in early November, and have a GPA and ACT score that are both at the high part of their range so I’m a little confused why I wasn’t invited… I’ve heard different things about why people were selected and was wondering if there was anything specifically stated. thanks!
