I currently go to Duquesne Univerity but I am switching my major to Information Science which is not offered here. A friend of mine goes to Penn State Greater Allegheny for an IS-like major. I'm currently taking an Intro to Computer Science at Duquesne to get myself prepared for my computer classes and my friend told me that my class is more challenging that his intro class was. Also, he describes his teachers and it seems like they don't belong anywhere near a university.

If anyone knows, does Pitt have a better Information Science program than Penn State? I was accepted to both. I am trying to stay in the Pittsburgh area and not spend a ton of money (like CMU). The only reason I'm at Duquesne is that they offered me a good scholarship.

The advantage of going ot Pitt is that if you gobble through everything they have available in the subject, you can take classes at CMU in their exchange program. i do believe Duquesne is also in that exchange, but the distance, though not that far makes it more onerous to do this from Duquesne. Do look at what the possibilities are to take the courses that are not offered at D at CMU ,how that could work for you before you make the transfer moves.

You can’t compare main campus with a branch campus…If this was Penn State main vs University of Pittsburgh main, then it would be a hard decision. University of Pittsburgh main wins here. If you goto Greater Allegheny, you would have to transfer to Penn State main to finish your bachelors after like 2 years…

Keep in mind its much easier to get into Greater Allegheny than University of Pittsburgh main…What is your GPA and what was your high school GPA and SAT’s ?
