Hello,
My son is trying to decide between the two. UVA - out of state will cost around 35K per year. He did not get into the honors program at UVA. He has two academic scholarships from Penn State (Schreyer and the business school) making tuition almost free and the cost of four years less than one year at UVA. He's going for business and PS has a good reputation in that area, although obviously UVA has a better repuation overall. He likes them both. We are probably OK to pay the UVA freight but it will make things tight - thinking it might be better saved for grad school. Any thoughts?

PSU for business! Excellent honors program

Thanks lawyr2B. Some of our friends say that we'd be crazy to turn down UVA. Guess Schreyer at PSU doesn't have the same name recognition. But it does seem like an excellent program. Any other thoughts out there?

As someone from Virginia, turning down UVA for me would be crazy... but it does cost a lot more for out of state. If your son is fine with less prestige (though not too much less overall, I guess), go with PSU, because the money is better used for grad school.
