I think you have a pretty good chance. When you apply, apply as early as possible for your best chance of getting in. Penn State is rolling admissions.

I would say anywhere around 1200 would be ideal. Be sure to apply early.

What is your unweighted gpa?

my unweighted gpa is about 3.6

You're fine. I think you're definitely in with that gpa and anything around a 1200 SAT (not sure what the new test equivalents are).

It's not so easy to get accepted to Main campus. My son got in, but must start in the summer session. He had 3.2 unweighted GPA, 3.8 weighted, 1380 SAT and applied in late August so that he'd be first in line for rolling admissions. Undecided major, so he didn't have to compete for a place at the engineering or business schools. He did not write the optional essay. He found out about admission later than other kids who had higher GPAs. Reportedly GPA counts for 2/3 and SAT/ACT counts for 1/3 of admission decision. For regular, 'non-hook' candidates, there is definitely an SAT cutoff but I don't know what it is.

I agree, it is far from easy to get accepted to main campus. Make sure you apply early.

PSU does not focus on your EC's/Comm service...
It also depends heavily on the college you're intending to apply to (Smeal/Engineering = higher req)
Just do reasonably well on your SATS (>1200). Your GPA looks solid enough.

In regards to applying early... Well I applied Jan 31st (Feb 1st being the deadline) and was accepted to Smeal in Apr. 1900 SATS and tres ridiculous high school transcripts, little - average EC's & minimum volunteering activities. (Could be attributed to my being an international student. (PSU prolly wanted to bump up their diversity status)
