Also... its DEFINITELY a stretch but do you think I'd have even the slightest chance at Boston College?? Thanks!!

Wisconsin. All are somewhat reachy with Michigan a big reach.

[Homepage and welcome | UW-Madison Department of Communication Arts](http://commarts.wisc.edu/)

Penn State looks close to a match. http://admissions.psu.edu/info/counselors/bubble_chart.pdf</a></p>

UGA might be a little tougher (very popular and it’s become competitive in state because of Hope Scholarship) but you have a realistic shot.

Michigan would be tough.

Penn St. sounds like a good match, Uga is as well if your instate GA, because they seem to favor there instate applicants. Umich is a slight reach, but there is no reason not to apply. I dont know much about which schools offer good communications programs, but maybe look into, University of illinois, Ohio State, or Indiana University, if you want to stay in Big ten country.

Thank you, everyone for your input! I’ll definitely look into your suggestions. I’m aware UMich is a bit of a reach, but I figured I’d throw it in there to see what you thought!! I’m definitely open for more comments!! Thanks again

Just speculating but Georgia may be easier for out of state applicants. It’s become competitive in state because of the Hope Scholarship. (Pretty much everyone who goes to UGA in state gets the full tuition scholarship.) That should also mean full pay out of state applicants are attractive.

Quakerstake, that’s actually what I was hoping as well! Just out of curiousity, does anyone think that the Hope Scholarship and the fact that the majority of in state UGA students are on it lessens the value of the university? Out of curiosity.

^ No, to the contrary. The Hope Scholarship is an attempt to keep the best students in state. The quality of student at UGA is much better than it was before the Hope Scholarship.

Okay! That’s really helpful. I’ve been researching American universities for about a year now and every time I feel like I have a good grasp on them something else pops up! I guess I’ll never truly have a feel for them like people who grew up in the States do.

That’s why I’m really glad I signed up for this website and started posting. Everything is seriously overwhelming (I just finished grade 11) and it’s nice to simply post a question and sit back and wait for the response.

I’ve heard mixed things about UGA. U.S News ranks it #62 (which for my marks and standards is pretty good), yet a lot of people seem to be bashing it for it’s “prestige”. Since I don’t live in the US, I have no idea if these are just biased opinions or true facts.

It’s all very confusing, lol.

“University of Michigan Ann Arbour”

It’s The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. We spell funny down here. ;-)

I’ve seen worse–esp. around central Ohio.

^^^hehe^^^

Ahahha I had a feeling I should have double checked that before posting :/

You mentioned communications and English. Grady College of Journalism and Communications at UGA is one of the top in the US. http://www.grady.uga.edu/about_grady.php?al1=About</a> Grady&page=about_grady.inc.php

Re UGA generally- its honors and Foundation Fellows programs are among the best such programs. UGA has many very strong programs, including communications.

Detractors on CC may view it as only an SEC football/ party school. It is however one of the stronger SEC football/ party schools academically. Some may base their opinions on dated perceptions.

A few top in state students on CC who are going there for the free tuition seem to act on CC like it’s beneath them (when they see a lot of their “lesser” classmates joining them there) but they’ll find when they get there that there are many other top students and they’ll be sufficiently challenged.

“Detractors on CC may view it as only an SEC football/ party school. It is however one of the stronger SEC football/ party schools academically.”

That’s always good to know.

As Michigan is in the Big Ten.

Football Saturdays in Athens, as in Ann Arbor, are part of the experience.

Since I will be attending UGA in the fall I am biased, but Grady is an great place for a communication major  I strongly reccomend it.

I just back from orientation a couple days ago and here were the admission stats from the class of 2016 if this helps…

GPA: 3.87
SAT:1190-1360 CR+M and a little over 600 for W
AP: 6 classes

Are you an in-state resident? If so, your HS could potentially help you as well. Specifically if you are from Gwinnett or East Cobb.

And just to clear off things regarding UGA on CC, it is not just a party/football school. Number 23 public university here!

Can you afford the out of state list price at each university? Financial aid and scholarships for international students tends to be very limited to non-existent at most universities in the US.

I’m sure you can find this yourself but the link I posted didn’t work. Here’s a corrected link to Grady at UGA: [Welcome To Grady College](http://www.grady.uga.edu/)

Everyone has been super helpful!! I’m really glad that not everyone thinks UGA is just a party school as I am seriously considering it as one of my options.

As for the affordability of college as an international student, I have the means necessary to attend so while scholarships would be nice, they aren’t a HUGE deal.
