i live in new york city and these schools are pretty much the same distance away from each other and money should not be an issue. i'm planning on majoring in accounting, so which of these two school would be better?

I would go to Bentley if you like smaller schools

This is an applies and oranges comparison. If you are from Pennsylvania, the price differential would suggest Penn State. However, Penn State is a big place and much more of a "Numbers " game. Bentley is much smaller and more intimate ,which could be both good and bad. Both have a lot of recruiters hiring people and both have good programs.

taxguy,
do you know anything about Geneseo's recruit rate? Geneseo's far upstate from New York City near Rochester, relatively near Binghamton. As I want to work in the city in the near future, I'm worried that Geneseo wouldn't have any job fairs/internships and job opportunities to big firms like the Big 4.

thanks for the insight guys. i think a smaller school would be better. it's good to know that bentley has a good amount of recruiters, i wasn't sure if it did, since it was a small place.

Don't know anything about Geneseo's program.

go to penn state and have more fun

I would definitely go for Penn State. I know that a lot of people say Bentley is better, however if you go into the business world, one in five people went to Penn State, and they made it really far!

People might say Bentley is better for business, though only 6 spots ahead of Penn State's Smeal in BusinessWeek doesn't seem like much of a difference.

Disclaimer: I went to Penn State University Park.

Thought Bentley is strong in it's business specialty, I believe Penn State University Park to be a stronger academic experience due to its vast amount of subject covered and its seemingly endless resources. I definitely never felt like a number most people that go to PS UP love it. I would go visit both. I think that should help to clear up a decision.

penn state is a lot better than bentley…just try living one day on bentleys campus and you will want to transfer in a second

“penn state is a lot better than bentley”

Ha, I was going to say it like this also, but I didn’t want it to seem like I was saying that Bentley is a bad place. Bentley is definitely not a bad school. That’s not what I am saying. It just does not have the national name recognition, resources, beautiful campus, school spirit, one of the strongest and most loyal alumni bases, and well rounded academics like University Park. I thought that I would just let the OP do a little more research and find out for himself/herself. It could be seen as an apples to oranges comparison between the two, but I would say the comparison of a giant red apple to a crabapple is probably more accurate.

ihateCollegeApps, I am assuming you got into University Park. Correct?

Definitely go to Penn State

PSU, alot more fun and just as good.

they really arent even close to the same league, bentley is barely known in mass nevermind outside of mass

masskid notes,"they really arent even close to the same league, bentley is barely known in mass nevermind outside of mass "

Response: Again, the schools that you attend for accounting is irrelevant. I would go to the least expensive school in the state that you want to practice in which would hopefully be in your own state. Why?

If you stay in your home state, you will have more connections for clients than if you go elsewhere. Hopetown “boys” do have an advantage

Partners from local firms recruit in their state of location. This is true even for big 4 partners.

Thus, I might take Bentley only if I wanted or needed a smaller, more intimate environment or wanted to practice in New England.

I meant to say “hometown “boys” have an advantage” in my post above and NOT “Hopetown boys>” Sorry about typo.

bentley has a rep in mass for being dumb stuck up kids, they think their school is amazing but in reality its alright, im not going to say it’s bad because it’s not. It’s just a very inconvienient campus with a decent business program, if you’re looking for a small focused intimate school look at babson, their amazing, or bryant because they have one of the best job placement programs in the nation.

jec7483: i’m going to be in the harrisburg campus for the first 2 years and then i can transfer to University Park. does this make a difference at all, since i am in the smeal college of business already anyway?

masskid: is the bentley campus that bad? lol

hmmm, this is a tough decision…i’m living in new york city right now, will this make it harder for me to get recruited on campus at both of these schools? i’m not sure if i want to live in NYC in the future, but i would like to live somewhere similar instead of a suburb like place

I have heard awful stories about it, it’s on a huge hill and there is no organization, so no matter what you can’t avoid going up and down the hill to get anywhere, a friend of mine went there his freshman year and couldn’t stand the kids or the campus so hetransferred out 2nd semester to bryant in RI, as stated earlier that could be an option for you to look at. or babson college in MA but thats an entreprenurial school and very cut throat

if i do choose penn state, which campus would be better for accounting, harrisburg (capital college) or university park (smeal)? i fell like harrisburg focuses more on being a CPA

but then bentley has that five year program where i can get a BS in four years and a MBA in five

hmmmm…
