Penn State or Binghamton?

Which one is better for a business major. I got into both Smeal at Penn State and SOM at Binghamton. Binghamton is in state so its about 17k cheaper a year. my parents would be able to pay it themselves and take loans, so I won't come out with my own debt, but the burden on my parents makes me think twice.

I do like Penn State's atmosphere and school spirit MUCH better than Binghamton, but academically they seem pretty similar? Anyone have opinions on where I should go? Thanks

Are you saying the financial burden would be if you go to Penn St? Are you saying that your parents would have to borrow $17k each year for you to go to Penn St?

It is not worth an additional $68,000 in debt for you to attend Penn State. That is a lot of money to spend to give a student a potentially better social life for most families. Of course, that’s for your parents to decide.

It would not be debt. My parents are paying for it, I think the only loan I’m taking is the Stafford loan for 5k a year.

Bing. Easy. Bing is academically superior to Penn State, and its cheaper.

Binghamton is academically superior to Penn State?? I don’t know about that, SMeal is at least ranked higher and I would think the immense alumni network would be a plus for Penn State.

Any final input?

If your parents are financially sound (which means that this will not hurt their retirement, etc), then go to Penn State.

Bing is not attractive, no school spirit, etc. You will have a more full college experience at Penn State.

Don’t get me wrong, Bing is a fine school…if all you want is the academic aspect. However, I know several kids at my kids’ school that turned down Bing just to have a more full campus experience.

Yeah, my parents told me that no retirement money is being spent on college and they have a pension when they retire, so I am going to choose Penn State. Thanks.
