Penn state or maryland

Would penn state university park (summer) or university of maryland be a better choice for business. The summer is not a huge issue for me... which school would be more reputable/offer better jobs for employment in 4 years. thanks for you thoughts.
By the cost is not a huge factor b.c both are out of state so they are approximately the same cost..( this will also be on the maryland page to c others opinions)

These are both excellent schools and will offer great job prospects.

The Wall Street Journal had an article this year in which recruiters ranked their top schools for recruiting. Penn State was ranked No. 1 and Maryland No. 8. These are both great choices.

nyman - were you admitted to both Smeal and Smith? Also, for UMD, were you admitted to the fall or spring? If you got into both business schools and you got into fall at UMD, then it’s probably a wash. If you only got into only one of the business schools and you def want business, I would strongly consider the business school you got into, especially since I know Smith (and maybe Smeal as well) has very tough standards to transfer into. Similarly, if you got into UMD only for spring, then I would give PSU more serious thought.

I think PSU is nationally ranked a little bit higher than Maryland.

PSU is notorious for getting good internships and jobs.
However, Maryland is located near Baltimore and DC, so internships and jobs are plentiful. (well… not plentiful considering today’s economy… but there are many opportunities out there)

I am not a business major myself but if you care primarily about rankings then I would go with which ever is ranked the highest. But from what I have learned more goes into choosing a school than just the rankings. You have to be sure it is a school that you will enjoy and can see yourself growing in.

As aStyle already mentioned UMD is located near two major metropolitan areas that can be great for finding jobs and internships. PSU is located in the middle of nowhere, literally. PSU is supposed to be good for finding internships and such but i’m not exactly sure how they base this because I have had no such luck atm.

nyman: you and eromano33 should get a room…jk…maybe you can help each other make your decisions

Yuppity, As a sophomore it should not be surprising that you have not landed an internship; most companies are looking for interns who are a little further along in their studies. If you talk to upperclassmen in your department I’m sure you’ll hear that many have been successful in finding summer placement. Did you go to the engineering career fair last week? You might also look into NSF’s REU programs; thee are many related to CS, though the application deadlines are probably getting close.

D is also into these 2 schools, trying to make a decision, also considering one other big state U… Not business, but undeclared. She got in for fall at both, College Park Scholars at UMD, which in my mind gives Maryland the edge. Wall St. Journal ranked PSU no. 1 for recruiting in September, UMD is no. 8.
