in terms of reputation, which school is generally considered better? yes, mcgill's in montreal and the fact that it's in another country doesn't matter to me. thanks!

McGill is generally known as the most eminent school in Canada. It will impressive somebody from another country more than Penn State, from my experience, but many Americans outside of academia won't recognize the name.

I agree with dis-grace, McGill is definitely the better school. It should also be a great experience to go to school there, sort of a quasi-international experience, even though it's just Canada. Be prepared for the winters.

definetly mcgilll, its actually really welll respected internationally too

What are your career plans? I hope you don't base your decision on reputation alone.

In terms of surrounding environment, Penn State and McGill are polar opposites.

McGill is near downtown Montreal and a short walk from gorgeous Vieux Montreal. You will be in the middle of a vibrant city with tons of opportunities, not to mention incredible music season. There are a ton of things to do in Montreal. Two blocks away from campus is a huge shopping district with huge malls both above ground and underground. Oh, and the drinking age in Quebec is 18, if you're into that.

Penn State is sort of in the middle of nowhere. If you're not too crazy about the city, it is quite nice. There aren't too many places to go, though.

I don't know anything about PSU students, but I can say McGill students are generally quite bright.
