Penn State or Temple

I have been between temple university and PSU for a long time and now it’s time to decide. I’m headed for health sciences or something similar at both schools. I like the idea of the Penn State experience and PSU spirit more then Temple. However Temple is closer and I tend to get homesick, but I’m looking to expand. Temple seems to have better health science degrees and programs. As well as better connections to hospitals for internships and volunteering. Any one with experience at either school that could help me decide?

It seems you’ve made your decision on Temple. My son accepted Penn State and for me I advised him to go to a college campus setting (I went to BostonU no campus). I fell in love with Penn state because of their campus(and not that addictive creamery)

Brand wise (that was also important) penn state is a global brand and the alumni network (I’ve been “we Are”’d too many times at airports and even on a trip to Kuwait)

What is your career goal?

It is okay to choose a college based on what is important to you…and not to others.

You say you tend to get homesick…what experiences have you had where you were away from home?
If you have had a few and still are homesick, then being near home is a viable thing to use to decide on a college.
Would you get pressure to live at home?

Would you wish you had the “big college experience” if you were at Temple?

I want to be a physical therapist, also considering med school

I love the campus at PSU better as well. I find the Penn state brand more appealing then Temple

@Mac2222 well you have until tomorrow to decide good luck! Let us know what you decided

It depends on preference. PSU is a more typical college campus with a high level of school spirit but this isn’t to say Temple doesn’t have the same. I know people in different medical programs at Temple and they all rave about their program so Temple has an edge there.

If you plan on a premed, pre-pt, or pre-PA track, you need to be very mindful of your GPA. Penn state has some heavy weed out courses in their STEM majors. If your GPA and SAT scores were way above average for PSU, you should be fine. If your stats were at or below average for PSU, you are more likely to struggle to get the necessary GPA for grad school and should consider Temple. If college grades aren’t a concern, I’d definitely pick Penn State. Better overall college experience and reputation.
