PENN STATE or U. of Maryland?

Hey guys, I'm making a decision right now between PSU or UMD. I want to major in Business, and I realized that Penn State's overall rank is better than U of Maryland's, especially PSU's Smeal College of Business..

I am also a resident of Pennsylvania, so I suppose if I want to attend UMD I'd have to pay non-residential tuition fee?

Which college would you choose if you were in my boat? I'm desperate for any suggestions!

Thank you!!

For UMD, did you get into Honors or Scholars?

If you get into Schreyers Honors, definitely Penn State.

No i didn't apply to Shreyers'...

and I didn't get any scholarship for UMD either.

:/

Your in state PA - so PSU makes sense. UMD is pretty much comparable - not worth the extra $ unless you really don't like the fit at PSU.

Maryland and Penn State's undergrad business schools are ranked exactly the same at 18. For overall undergrad, PSU is 47 and Maryland is 54. Rankings deserve to be taken with a grain of salt, so I'd dare say that academic quality is approximately the same. Unless you prefer Maryland's environment, I'd say PSU.

Penn State.

Penn State University 100%

amx and windley,

why psu? is it the school spirit?

There's school spirit.

You also save money.

PSU gets my vote too. Cheaper, and the people who go there all seem to love the place.

Make sure your grades are good. I have a nephew in Smeal...he (a junior)
needed a 3.2, or 3.3?? after first couple years to get accepted into business school. I don't know if you can be accepted as a freshman into Smeal but seems like a good way to go.

(He picked PSU over UMD.)

Penn State gets my vote. It has a good repuation and can save you $$.

However, you probably could read up on student life on different website and visit both if you haven't already && decide which one ''feels'' right to you.

I would go to Penn State, it is equal in quality to UMD for less money.

PSU more bang for buck.

They are about the same, if ur a penn resident then for money, go to Penn state. But if money is not a problem for you, you can visit both campuses and see which one you like more. I know that maryland business school has new buildings and stuff, they look nice too.

in my opinion, the schools are comparable. Im not quite sure, but Maryland seems as though its Business school is picking up more recent recognition. However, the fact that you live in PA basically makes this question a no-brainer. Go to penn state which is basically equal to UMD, save about 40 G's, and use that money for grad school!
