Penn State Personal Statment - Is this a good topic?

How do you think your studies in the academic program you have chosen will empower your imagination, develop your skills, and enrich your compassion?

I have to use this topic for my LMU application which is about 800-1000 words...and it would fill up Penn State's personal statement requirements as well.

So what do you think?

Are you seriously thinking about putting all 800-1000 words on PSU's personal statement? If so, don't bother applying.

Well there application has a limit of 1200 words, so I was thinking that would be a good amount. And it's not like I would have to write an extra essay...I was just going to copy and paste my LMU essay on to Penn State's app.

1200 words or 1200 characters? They will most likely not read it.

I just checked it again, and it says 1200 spaces or characters...so that changes things big time. That's less than 300 words.

Also I have another question...If I have a 3.7 and I'm top 10% of my class...what SAT score would you recommend for admission. I plan on majoring in business.

Thanks...

As high as you can get, of course!

1350 puts you in the clear:

thanks for the link.

1350 may put you in the clear, but 1400+ will be more safe. Of course, the higher the better. Wow... thats pretty high (for me at least)... 3.7/1350.

I think that chart is a little bit skewed. Considering that the average gpa is a 3.54 (which counts for 2/3 of the admission decision), and the acceptance rate is ~60%....I personally feel I don't necessarily need a 1350 to get in. 52% of the school has an average SAT of 1200 or higher....So I'm thinking the average is somewhere around 1150-1250.

I currently only have an 1100, but I'm retaking the SAT in Oct. (I hope to study for this one), and I'm also taking the ACT in September. I'm shooting for around a 1200-1250.

I personally think, my gpa (which is higher than their average), my course load (hardest offered at my school...AP's and honors), my top 10% rank, and my hopeful SAT score of 1200-1250....Should place me as a solid match for Penn State (with a good chance for admission).

However, I'm worried about applying too late. I have to wait until Sept/Oct for the ACT/SAT, so should I wait until I received both scores, or send in my application now with an 1100, and show on my app that I also plan on taking them in Sept/Oct?

Thanks...

The chart shows the weighted grade as well, considering it goes up to 4.3. Also, I would apply early, and then send your scores to penn state. They are always picking up test scores. They don't look at summer and fall apps. until nov. 30. My unweighted is about a 3.7 (4.167w), top 7%, good ecs and essay, but the essay is my biggest downflaw(1060). I look at it this way: the gpa alone is 2/3 EVERYTHING else is 1/3. So apply early and maybe do fall with considering summer. I am apply straight summer becuase my SAT is very low..and i have taken it three times...im taking act, but honestly i do bad on tests...

...sorry for rambaling, but I hope this helps.

Yah I've already done the application, I just don't want to send it in yet because I want to wait for my new SAT/ACT scores.

And I'm applying for Fall 2008, but I said I would do the Summer session if it was my best option.

thanks...

I got in to engineering (WOW) with a 3.74uw/4.0w/1100. If you can get 1250-1300, I don't think it will be a problem. By the way, which college are you applying to?

lil_killer129,

I don't know if your post was directed to me or xylophoneguy5, but I plan on applying to the school of communications or smeal. I can't decide if I want to major in business and minor in media studies, or major in media studies and minor in business.
