One can hope that Sandusky’s trial will allow the victims to feel that their abuser was at least brought to justice.

I was just admitted yesterday. I was looking forward to possibly attending. Now my whole mind is changing. What do you guys think, should I still consider going?

In my opinion, Joe Paterno needs to go NOW, not at the end of the season. His statement today was basically an admission of guilt and of the fact he did not do enough. Allowing him to go out on his own terms at the end of the season will allow him to preserve his dignity. He deserves no such thing. Penn State needs to remove him NOW and show that, for once, it has put more important things ahead of football.

Yikes… No one thinks of Columbine High School as a “great place to receive an education” anymore… That perception won’t change for 100 years. What’s to say that 30 years from now, Penn State’s name won’t still be marred due to this horrific incident?

I was going to consider Penn State, but I don’t think I can apply anymore.

My son may not apply now. I expect bad press for many years and a new president by the end of the month.

Paterno is officially fired. Although what he did or didn’t do may be wrong… it breaks my heart to see someone who dedicated their whole entire life to that team and school be disposed of so quickly…

if the general population’s anything like my facebook newsfeed… PSU’s admissions will most definitely be affected. A lot of people lost their pride in Penn State and are already ruling it out as a school

I was just watching the news and a reporter said this very well may be the worst scandal in college football…he also said that along with Sandusky and the rest of them tarnishing the reputation of Penn State, the rioting students were also embarrassing the university.

If people choose not to attend PSU just because Joe Pa messed up and got fired…then their reasons for attending in the first place were probably wrong.

Not much good can be said of PSU concerning this disaster except that at least they responded quickly by cleaning house. Hopefully the healing can now begin.

May be wrong? He turned a blind eye to suffering children for at least 9 years. Yes, I’d say that’s wrong. In fact, I’ll go way out on a limb and say that protecting children is even more important than protecting a football program. But maybe my values are just out of whack.

How about blaming Sandusky’s parents and family members for raising such a sick pedophile f***??? Joe PA does not equal Jerry Sandusky, like the media is portraying.

Are we all forgetting that this is Sandusky’s fault???

Riot was whack

I can see the riot from my window, and honestly, this is embarrassing. Rioting will not change anything. This is a hard time for Penn State.

As we have learned many times often the cover-up is worse than the initial crime. If PSU would have acted more forcefully in 1998 this would never have been an issue today. They ALLOWED him to stay around and molest more boys. What else were they hiding? He was not that big a deal then.

Eastcoast, of course, we all know that Sandusky was the perpetrator, and if there’s any justice he’ll be sent into the general prison population, where they will make short work of him.

The problem with Paterno (and the AD, VP, and Pres) was that he KNEW children were being abused. Want proof? He did what he was required to do in such a case: he reported it to the AD. And then he walked away. A Man of Integrity and Honor, as he thinks of himself, would have moved heaven and earth to make sure Sandusky was stopped. All the boys who were victimized after 2002 would have been saved, if only Joe had done the right thing and called the police when he first learned about this. He is a moral midget, and that’s the kindest thing I can call him.

This is coming from someone who HATES Nittany Lions sports.

1000000% agree. If this scandal lowers your interest in PSU, just turn away from the school altogether because in the end, the academics, student body, research, activities, etc. are all the same and letting a scandal like this affect your opinion on PSU means that you should never have even considered going here in the first place.

And two. I hope that everyone in this topic has read the report before stating their opinions.

http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/uploadedFiles/Press/Sandusky-Grand-Jury-Presentment.pdf

Because if you’re speaking based on what you read from sites that are influenced by the media, which is so biased and malicious because it destroys anything when given the chance, you should have read some material that’s a little bit more unbiased.

The “riot” was really just a large gathering of people, as I’m sure you know. Yes a small percentage of the “mob” acted shamefully so they’ll get all the media coverage (kinda the opposite of Sandusky, eh?). Frankly I went down (like a ginormous majority of the people there) to see the reaction from the students. By forming this giant “riot” it’s showing the university leaders that we as students are not happy with their pure stupidity (wanted to use a different word) whilst handling this entire situation.

Also, if people haven’t read Dan Vecillo’s article about the media’s role in this, they should. Students were chanting “F- the media!” whenever they saw cameras, and I wholeheartedly agree with it (though I don’t condone throwing rocks at them). Whatever dumb-*** reporter from ESPN that was there angered me too. After a student he was interviewing began his statement with something saying we shouldn’t forget about the victims or whatever, the reporter goes “So this is all about Joe Paterno?” NO YOU IDIOT! The national media is so quick to label us all as rowdy college students that only care about our football team and not the victims, while I doubt any of them even know what THON is. All the while, they’re reporting about overturned vans and people throwing rocks at reporters. Screw facts, we want ratings.

The police on hand also seemed ridiculously inadequate. It took them so freakin’ long to respond to people knocking down the light-poles, and all of them just stood there as the masses started moving back to College. Uh, don’t you think at least some of you should go with the mob? Boom, overturned news truck. Reports from students are also coming in saying how they were maced and pepper-sprayed for simply standing on the sidewalk or walking in the opposite direction. After hearing similar stories during the riot after the OSU win of trigger-happy (if you will) policemen, this doesn’t surprise me.

<<if people="" choose="" not="" to="" attend="" psu="" just="" because="" joe="" pa="" messed="" up="" and="" got="" fired…then="" their="" reasons="" for="" attending="" in="" the="" first="" place="" were="" probably="" wrong.="">></if>

Agree 100%.

<<… the rioting students were also embarrassing the university.>>

That’s my son’s feeling, as well.

The reputation of Penn State is taking a beating from top to bottom in newscasts across the US. It’s beyond just football. What a disgrace. I know I would seriously be reconsidering any decision to attend.

This is the worst scandal in sports and higher education history in the US, and the word out there is it might even get worse.

It’s sad how much faith some people put into the news they hear on ESPN and other awful media sources. Get your facts straight before you start telling kids they should “reconsider” going to the school. For every single one of you who has no faith in the institution and bases your college decision on what you’ve been hearing on TV for the past 4 days, there are plenty of others who would be proud to take your place at the university, don’t worry!

I just got accepted today and I am still seriously considering attending. the media is awful and always has been awful at reporting news. period. the bias they portray is ridiculous. in no way does this scandal change the level of academics or quality of teachers at the school. and isn’t that the purpose of going to college; to learn? I am a fan of JoePa and while what he did or lack there of was wrong, but at least he took some initiative. the focus of this case should be Sandusky, not Paterno, but the media has turned everyone against him and it seems Sandusky is nowhere to be found in any media coverage.
