I'm now a sophmore at Penn State Main and i can't believe its already been a year. I remember when my mom dropped me off to leave for school. If anyone has any questions just ask. Ask me about anything. I'm honest and I will tell you all about happy valley.

Which college are you in ?

The college of Health and Human Development and Liberal Arts. I'm double majoring in Human Development and Family Studies and Crime, Law, and Justice.

I'm available for questions too.

im in the college of engineering....im a sophmore as well ;).

how is it at penn state ? :) (sorry for the detail)

I really love the school. When I first got up there, I didn't think that I would make any friends, but I ended up making so many friends. My floor especially was great. I lived in a Special Living Option- Discover House. I love every minute of it. Discover House is great for someone who is not sure as to what major they want to consider. My hall was more than just a group of freshman, we were a community. A lot of people think the school is too big, but I feel it is like one big family, so don't be shy to get to know different kinds of people. Were not called happy valley for nothing. I love the social side of penn state. Their are so many things to do here, there's never a dull moment in happy valley. I can go to parties, movies, concerts, and just hang out in the dorms on the weekend. It is defintely up to you as to what you want to do. The classes are a bit tough, but it just depends what classes and courseload your taking. I took 17 credits in the fall and 19 in the spring. The spring was a lot harder. I did manage to get a 2.96 cumulative, I didn't really like my gpa, but as a freshman you learn from your mistakes. The football games are amazing!!!! I camped out for paternoville for the michigan game and the game was crazy. To have 107000 people shout out WE ARE..... PENN STATE gave me chills. THON is also something special. One thing is also to get involved. I'm involved with 4 organizations on campus and I love it. Overall I loved my freshman year and I can't wait to come back in the Second Summer Session and the fall. You guys are so lucky to be freshman... That is probably one of the only compilments you may get. To be at Penn State and experience everything that PSU has to offer is wonderful. I hope that penn state is going to be your second home as it is to me. What major are you and what hall did you pick to live in?

Was it difficult for to manage 17/19 credits, 4 different organizations and a social life? How did you go about doing it?

I love it out here at PSU. I did a summer program up at PSU (PREF) which made it a lot easier in the fall, which was easy. in the fall I only took 15 credits. I took it easy (for some reason so many people seem to overload themselves the first semester) I was in 4-5 orgz. and I participated in research with a professor. I did ok that semester ending with Deans List. (I also got an internship from the career fair). Of course I stayed social and went out around 2 nights a week. My spring was much more busy since I had 17 credits a job and research. Of course I stayed social, but I unfortunately I didnt quite reach deans list (but was less than a point off). It was a fun and sometimes busy year. The work hard play hard mentality fits PSU perfectly and I definately luv it :D. Penn State is great.

I would do like CH121S did, went out around 2 nights a week. I would try to study as much as I could, but at times I would procrastinate and at times it would affect my grades. My best advice is learn how to manage your time. You will hear time management said all the time, but it's true. I took a lot of hard classes in the spring and at times it was stressful. Another word of advice is to not take a bigger courseload than you can handle. I thought I could handle 19 credits, but it turned out it was not good for me and my gpa suffered b/c of it. As a freshman, you will learn from your mistakes and move on. I'm a better person academically and socially b/c of it. CH121S, what hall did you live in?

I lived in the FISE option

i lived in beaver hall- 5th floor- Discover House. did u pick another SLO for next year.

I want to do reserch next year, is it difficult to get?

And how do I go about it?

I was looking to participate in a relevant academic related activity, but I realize the opportunites for freshmen are limited. Hopefully, I will join two clubs as well.

it depends on what you want to research? I'm going to be a TA for a sociology class- SOC 119 Race & Ethnic Relations.
In order for me to be a TA, I had to take the class and apply for the position. They picked 32 students.
What kind of research are you looking for?

Not research in particular, but I wanted to be involved in some academic activity. I will be taking intro cse next year, so something in that field would be great. Other than that, I was thinking about assisting in the lab (i knew someone whose job was to take care of lab rats), but no position in particular.

ahah Cap im a TA for 119 too ;)

Does getting an on-campus job (like in a dining hall) help my resume if I am an aerospace engineer?

what day did you pick for the discussion group?

Do some students end up with 5 to 6 roommates?
