yes. it's called suplemental housing. On my floor, they had 8 guys but by the end of the year, it was only 6. You can choose to stay or leave by the end of the fall semester. Every person that I know that has suplemental housing actually enjoy it and are friends with all of their roomates. It's cheaper to be in this kind of housing. Where did u pick to live?

I just got accepted off the waitlist. Does that mean I will end up in suplemental housing? Should I pick a particular dorm so that does not happen? Or choose a certina type of room.

Also, I was not accepted into the school of business. I was told I need a 3.0 to transfer into accounting. Is it difficult to maintain a 3.0?

lil_killer129, Taking a job in the dining hall will help your resume in that it shows you are willing to work for your education, unlike some kids who are just in school because their mom and dad are sending them. It also demonstrates that you are able to juggle a number of responsibilities (school, work, social life). OTOH, it won't hurt to ask your academic advisor about possible jobs in the college, which might give you relevant experience.

you can pick any hall that you want, it just depends if the housing office chooses you to have supplemental housing.
I know in the smeal college of business you have to take prescribed courses before getting into the major. I know people that have taken prescribed courses and gen ed's for their major and have maintained a 3.0. Right now I feel it isn't that hard at all, but you have to be focused and not take a big courseload. 15/16 Credits for the fall and spring of your freshman year. Trust Me I took too much and it hurt my gpa.

Are there clubs/organizations I can be a part of (chess club, math club, robotics club) during the summer? I know they are available during the Fall/Spring; I'm not sure about the summer.

How do I make the dean's list? I saw someone here say they were on it. I think it was CH121S; I don't really remember. Also, do you get scholarships/money when you're on it?

How do I go about getting an on-campus job (in a dining hall) this summer?

You get Deans list when your semester GPA is above 3.5 ;). To get a job just apply online (goto the hosuing and food website).

lil_killer, do you play chess? I will be trying out for the chess club next semester, you could also try out if you want to join. I didn't know they had a robotics club, but I will be looking into it as well.

Ch121s, are you a member of any clubs?

I second capital's advice. If you are going to get a job, make sure your courseload is manageable (no more than 16 credits). Otherwise, you will just have no energy or time to study for all your classes.

also, CH12 and capital, what GPAs do you guys have at this point?

my first semester was a 3.34, but the spring i took 19 credits and my gpa was 2.69. so my gpa is 2.96 cum, but i will be there for the second summer session to bring back my gpa up.

frasifrasi, yes, I play chess. Do we have to try-out to join? Can we just play there?

No, because it is more like a team. So we have to try out to make it into the club, but it shouldn't be too hard--just know your openings and pretend that you are good.

When my sons were children they occasionally played in the PSU chess club tournaments. In order to compete one needed to be a USCF member. I would imagine that is still the case; you might want to join if you are not a member. It is possible that the team is chosen based on USCF ratings.

capital and CH12, do you guys have a myspace?

no i dont....

Is there public transportation (bus/train) in State College, PA something similar to the MTA (NYC) and SEPTA (Philadelphia, PA) that runs frequently?

yes we have the blue/white loop that runs around campus every 5-10 min. We have the CATA bus system that takes you all over state college and if you have an apartment, the buses will take you home free of charge. The bus system is 1.50 if you want to go anywhere that isnt on campus i.e Nittany Mall.
And i don't have a myspace, i do have a facebook.

Is 16.5 credits this Fall reasonable if I want to have an on-campus job too? Right now, I'm registered for ECON 002 [3], MATH 140E [4], PHYS 211L [0], PHYS 211R [4], ENGL 015 [3], KINES 084 [1.5], AERSP 001S [1].

i think you will fine. if u can get Dirk Mateer or Mcleoud for econ 002 you will be fine. i took 17 credits in the fall last year, and I still had a job. Do you have work study? If you do you can only work a max of 20 hours a week. What kind of job are u interesting in?

I think you will be very busy with that course load and a job and football season too. Try a job but don't take it personally if you need to cut back on your hours. Engineering is pretty challenging and you need to have a minimum GPA for certain majors.

I have work-study but don't think I will be taking it. I'm just interested in working in the dining halls or something.

I know nothing about work study but think you should research it a bit before you turn it down; just from the PSU site it says you are paid at least $8.50 per hour.
http://www.psu.edu/studentaid/aidprog/workstudy.shtml?reload
But starting rate for food service (dining halls) for non work study is $7.00.
