Penn State Sophmore taking question

i work in the admissions office in the mail room and i only work about 8 or 10 hours a week and they let me study while i work and it is very laid back. i think u should def. consider work study, its worth it.

Capitalq17, are you doing work-study? It also says, 'Federal Work-Study will not be credited towards your tuition bill. Work-Study recipients are paid every two weeks and earn at least $8.50 per hour" on the website. Does this mean that I will be handed a check every two weeks, and it's up to me to save it for tuition?

yes, the work study is not included in the tuition bill, it is for your own money to use. I got paid direct deposit and they put it in your savings account. I plan to get work study in the fall and spring next year.

I think I am going to look more into work study. By the way, what do you mean by savings account? Is that the lioncash thing? Can I put it in as lioncash?

This is a different topic: Can I take money out if I deposit too much lioncash?

Your savings account is from your bank of choice, i.e PNC Bank is my bank.
I know that if you deposit too much money, you cannot recieve the money in cash or check until you graduate.

actually you can take it out at the end of the spring semester but they charge you a fee.

Okay. I saw the PHYS 211 textbook (Fundamentals of Physics 7th/Ed) in Barnes and Nobles today for $5 (each hardcover volume). So I bought both volume 1 and volume 2, because I am taking PHYS 211 next Fall, and I thought it was pretty cheap. How likely will the Physics department change their textbook to 8th/Ed, since it's already been published?

lil_killer, assuming that the phys department will not change its ways, your homework will be online, through WebAssign. Your labs and recitations can be downloaded from the physics website. So, to me, it doesn't matter which version of the textbook you use as problems will not be assigned from it. Note: the honors classes usually do use the textbook for problems.

I have a question. Are there clubs during the summer?

Yes, there are.

WHAT??? you bought the books for $5 each??

Yes. I bought both Volume 1 and Volume 2 (hardcover; they come separately) for $5 each. They are used but look quite good.

good bargain. I bought the latest edition(which comes in one big volume) for about $150.

A bought my English textbook for $40. We didn't use it all semester. I ended up selling it for $5. What a waste of money. College bookstores literally rape your wallets.

yes, they molest it without mercy. I had a gentics book for $100 and it turns out the professor was posting all the chapters online. In the end, I sold it for $10. what I can say--it is part of the process.

lol you buy your boox from amazon not the book stores ;).

Definitely don't buy books before classes start unless you are getting a really, really good deal. Many times it turns out you don't need the books, or can share or borrow books. Sometimes you can use an older edition that you can buy for next to nothing. If you end up dropping a course or switching sections, you won't have the hassle of returns. And if it turns out that you can't avoid buying that $150 latest edition calculus text (we all know how radically calculus changes every couple of years, lol), the bookstore will not be sold out.

I'm trying to apply for a Food Service job on their website, and I have a few questions:

When they ask for "local address" do they mean the address of my house in New York City or the address of my dorm (which I do not know yet)?

What about "local phone" (since they ask for both local phone and home phone)?

i would put down for local address your address at home and local phone is your phone at home. you can enter your other info later when u get it. are u coming in for the summer?

Yeah. I'm coming in the summer.
