For those of you who don't know what Thon is, it is the largest student run philanthropic organization in the country and benefits children suffering from childhood cancer. You may have seen students soliciting change at various street corners on certain weekends in the fall in the Northeast. The money goes towards what medical insurance doesn’t cover, as well as other expenses the families might incur as their child is receiving treatment at Hershey Medical Center, such as housing, meals, gas and other things. Dancers stay on their feet for 46 hours. Visit Home | THON.org - Conquering Childhood Cancer for more information.

I was there this weekend. It is beyond words! My son is a captain (you Penn Staters will know what that is) so we were treated to a behind the scenes tour. Over 15,000 students were involved this year in this fundraising effort. Unbelievable! I am so proud of my son and his friends.

It's interesting...for years I would wonder who all those kids standing out in the street were, and occasionally drop a dollar or two in the "can." Now, my son is one of those kids standing out there all weekend and we are in awe of the the dollars they collect for a good cause. I give more now of course!
Another thing I think is terrific is how it's expanded beyond the greeks - there are huge numbers of non-greeks participating now and contributing both leadership and fundraising. It's nice to see everyone come together.
