I will be a freshmen at Penn State Altoona this fall. My major is biology but i would really like to transfer to Hopkins next fall since I have decided to study medicine later on. Hokpinks is a great med school and though my chances may not be so great I would still like to transfer there! Whats the procedure? What classes should i take so hopkins accepts my credits???

help! does psu have a good enough medical program? is it any good? i dont know if i should transfer?

You can still go to medical school at Hopkins if you stay at Penn. It’s not some type of requirement to do undergrad there. And you might end up liking your school! It’s so early to be cinsidering transfer before you even start, lol.

Regarding courses, your best bet is to consult their website for recommended classes to take and how to apply/how many credits you need/etc.

After you start at Altoona, I’d try to work your butt over to the Penn State Hershey campus for pre-med or something similar. It’s not exactly Johns Hopkins, but it won’t keep you out of med school if you hold up your end of the bargain (grades, etc.). Going to medical school isn’t exactly like business school or law school where if you don’t get into a top 20 graduate program you might as well not go. If you get into any medical school after undergrad, you’ll be set.

Just to clarify: medical school is a professional school that one enters after they complete their undergrad. Anyone can apply to any medical school with any major (although there are a few required science classes). JHU undergrad has the highest placement at JHU medical school with Harvard and Yale in close 2nd and 3rd place.

At JHU undergrad, you can have any major and be in the pre-med advising program. They run a bunch of programs and a lot of JHU students get into excellent medical schools, but a decent number of people get into top medical schools without top undergrads.
