Penn State Transfer

Hello I am currently a Penn State(honors college) student looking to transfer to another school. The reasons I am transferring are because PSU does not offer an economics degree through the undergraduate business school and only through the liberal arts college. I would like the degree to be focused on applied economics(business economics). I would like to transfer to a better ranked school for my major to expand internship opportunities and give myself better opportunities upon graduation.(not saying that I won't have opportunities) I want to go to school in a more urban area as well. Putting it simply all around PSU just isn't my fit. I am very passionate about sustainability as you will be able to tell through my app. Please give me your thoughts on where I stand and I will also chance you back!

Schools I am applying to:
Upenn(not sure if wharton or CAS this is my number 1 choice however I am not expecting by any means to get in)
Villanova(business school)
NYU(stern)
Georgetown
Cornell(Dyson)
Brown
Columbia(have a legacy here)
Swarthmore

Lastly Yale and Harvard but they are just for crapshoots.(everyone can have their dream schools) :)

Impressive. Wharton is a reach for anyone but it seems you have an ok shot. Perhaps a GPA boost would do but yours is still high. With legacy, Columbia is within reasonable reach as well. The rest appear to be matches/ low reaches at worst (Georgetown, Cornell).

Getting your work published would be a game changer.

Good luck with Harvard and Yale :)…not impossible.

Yea that is why I think I am going to apply for econ in CAS. It seems way more possible. Also I can always try Wharton for my MBA:). I am okay with going to Penn and not being in Wharton. The CAS economics degree still has tons of success in the workforce. Also I am definitely getting some of it published I am about 99 percent sure. Just not sure about the textbook. Thanks for chancing!

While I am at it I am gonna add UChicago to the list since they have a decent transfer admissions percentage for their rank

I agree with 4crook. Since they are both Ivies, you should look at the acceptance rates for transfer applicants ~ 3-5%.

So what your saying is that the ivies are gonna be crapshoots(as usual) and the rest of the schools I should be okay for such as Villanova, NYU and Georgetown?

bump10char

STERN MAN STERN…
i would say all match…

really even the ivies? thats might be a bit overpositive but im gonna let it make me happy haha

I think the ivies are reaches, but you have a decent shot. Then I would agree about the rest being low reaches/matches. Good luck!

Thanks for your input. Any suggestions to increase my chances? Also I think I should be okay for Nova, NYU, and Gtown for sure.
