Well I can’t visit now because i’m overseas.
Can you visit from overseas, perhaps during your Spring Break (or half-term or Easter holiday…)?
I wish, but I can’t. The only time when I can actually “visit” a college campus is when I go study there.
Okay, I understand. It’s he situation for most international students, but some do manage to visit once they understand how important it can be.
Roanoke will provide you with a small, close-knit atmosphere. It’ll be very supportive, you’ll have small, interactive classes, you’ll know your classmates and your professors well. You’d be there for all 4 years and would likely be able to get internships in DC, etc. On the downside, it is well-known in Virginia but not very known outside of the State.
WVU is a very large state school, with a wide variety of profiles and levels, a boisterous groups of fans for the football team, and you’d be there for all 4 years. On the downside, it’s in a poor region of the country called Appalachia, and it’s a bit isolated, although there’s a lot of natural beauty around it and you can be in DC in about 3 hours.
Penn State is a huge brand name, with the #1 alumni network in the US, incredible career fairs. It’s only state-affiliated, so it feels a bit betwen private and public, and the college town is really nice, about 4 hours to DC, Philadelphia, NYC, and Baltimore. On the downside, you’re in in Altoona for two years, which is a smaller, more commuter campus in a small town about 20mn from State College,so you’d end up with a prestigious degree but you’d only have two years on the big fancy campus, first you’d have two years on the not-as-good Altoona campus.
Each choice has downsides and upsides, so you’d have to choose based on what’s important to you.
Thanks, this is really helpful! Right now, i’m hesitating between PSU and Roanoke. Both seem like great choices, but making the decision is really tough.
Virginia might be a bit warmer than PA
It definitely is warmer than PA, from what I’ve heard. I’ve been to VA before, I know the weather there. I do prefer warmer weather over colder weather, though.
