Penn State University Park Admission Question

Hello! Debating whether my daughter should apply directly to the College of Education or to DUS. She is interested in majoring in secondary education math. I am uncertain how competitive education is compared to DUS. I know business and engineering are very competitive. Any insight would be appreciated. We need the odds to be in her favor because of SAT score! She wants to go to main campus freshman year & possibly cheer. She is willing to go summer.

unweighted avg. 97.18
weighted avg. 99.28

unewighted rank 20/575
weighted rank 94/575

SAT 1190 ACT 24( submitting SAT since it is slightly better)
5 Honors/AP/IB Classes

4 Years Varsity Cheer (State Champs)

Thanks! Shelly

I would go ahead and apply to Education, because it has so many requirements and courses taken in a specific order that you don’t want to somehow get behind. Education is not as competitive as business or engineering. she has good strength of schedule and a good gpa. The world needs more teachers! Good for her!

Check summer and apply for education - her odds are very good.

Agree with all above. College of ed with a willingness to start in summer.

I would apply directly to CoE /summer. Her SAT is on the low side for main campus, but you never know. PSU seems to care about GPA more, anyway. My son is in CoE, and yes, they do start you in specific education courses right from the start, and it’s the 3rd smallest college at Penn State, so they supposedly get a lot of personalized attention from advisors and staff. It’s like going to a small college within a large university. I think there are only 1200 students total in the whole college at University Park! Best of both worlds! Good luck to your daughter!!

If she doesn’t get in then request DUS. better to be in DUS if you don’t get into the major or college one wants
