Just wondering if someone could give me some guidance on my acceptance chances. I applied to Penn State in September, but my scores were sent a week later.
GPA:3.56
SAT: 1080
-Currently attending one of the best high schools in Pennsylvania, have taken over 10 honors courses throughout high school, and have taken 2 AP courses.
-Apart of 8 clubs and sports
*I know my SAT score is low
I was told 2/3 of the decision is based off of GPA, so I’m not heavily concerned with my test scores. Are you familiar with Penn States admissions? @MYOS1634
yes, 2/3 = high school curriculum rigor and grades — and 1/3 is test scores (and ECs+ essay), but test scores do count, especially if your GPA is borderline. So, you should retake the test and send your updated scores in order to increase your odds.
@tm72399 They will look at how you performed against your schools grading scale. They do not compare you among other schools - specifically because of the grading scale issue. That’s why comparing GPA"s is pretty useless in my opinion. A 3.56 weighted may get you into summer session, but your SAT Is holding you back. Plus, just so you know, there is no guaranteed admission at Penn State. I’ve seen kids with 4.0’s rejected because of their schools grading scale. It’s rare, but I’ve seen it a few times in the years I’ve been on this board. I’ve also seen, if they are to be believed, students with what would seem like too low stats get accepted. It’s really a crap shoot. There are averages though - and your GPA is equal to the average GPA of freshmen in 2016 (according to the common data set). Your SAT, however, is low. If there is any way you can take it again to bring it up AND still complete your application prior to November 30, I would do so. Otherwise, just put an alternate campus as a back up so that you are not rejected outright.
