I am OOS with a 3.7 unweighted average and a 1310 on my SAT. I have a few college courses that i have taken and gotten A’s in those and Honors Spanish. I did not take any AP classes. I am thinking of applying either DUS or Business
Apply DUS NOT business (few students get in straight from HS, it’s one of the most selective premajors).
Check summer session.
Look at the majors offered in CLA, IST, and Ag (especially Agribusiness if you’re interested in business).
You could apply business as first choice and DUS second. Just apply early. Business And engineering difficult to transfer into if your not in DUS
You can only enter one choice.
All students are “premajor” till they have completed “Entrance to Major” courses so there’s no benefit to applying directly to Business v. DUS.
Note that you cannot declare Business if you applied for another major than DUS.
Just curious whether you can apply under one intended major, switch to DUS at orientation and then try for business, or are you totally locked out of business???
I don’t see why you couldn’t apply for, say, Sociology, switch to DUS at orientation, then Spring sophomore year apply to Business. However it’d only make sense if the major you apply to is easier to get into than DUS, right?
That’s what I was thinking. I have another family member who wants his kid to apply directly to Smeal. (Advised him to go DUS as well) There are so many business related degrees not in Smeal — HR, Econ, Agribusiness, energy business and finance, etc. Not sure why more students don’t consider them as a first choice.
At NSO you can change to any major except the business school. I doubt you can transfer spring without the required gpa and credits. Best to be in DUS if your not sure and follow the required classes for a major in the business school. Controlled majors are the worst. There is also in the earth and minerals college a major called Energy Business
