penn state university park

Hello, I was just wondering if someone could estimate my chances for getting accepted to psu university park.

Female
White
In-state
Dad and grandpa attended penn state,
dad donates money now (probably irrelevant)

I think about a 3.36 uw gpa (not certain)
3.72 w gpa
1940 SATs
550 math
690 reading
700 writing
Class rank is I believe 31/147
I have taken 11 ap/honors courses in high school total and I take dual enrollment at a penn state branch campus now

A whole bunch of activities, like varsity tennis, marching band etc

I know psu considers mostly gpa and SATs and mine both are a little lower than I'd prefer but if someone could let me know what they think or if you would need more info just respond :)
Thanks!

You have a good chance, I’d bet on you getting in.

I agree with Em. You have a great chance.

You’d be borderline without the AP classes, with them it’s a match since I doubt they’d direct someone with 11APs to a branch campus (did you score 4s/5s or 2’s? That would change your odds.)

Which other schools are you applying to? Don’t put all your eggs in the same basket. :)

Come back to post here to let students know how it turned out, and thus alleviate their anxiety by providing reliable admission info (better than “chances”). :)

You have a good chance. Especially with your dad being a legacy there.
Match/high match

Mine please?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1567285-chance-transfer.html

ALL Penn State looks at is GPA and SAT scores. That is it. Period. GPA is 2/3 and SAT is 1/3. That’s it.

Here is the chart

http://admissions.psu.edu/info/counselors/bubble_chart.pdf

youre probably in UP PSU

Penn State didn’t make it clear that ECs were not taken into account, only that GPA is 2/3 of the way in. Must have mixed up some Iowa state school or some CSU where GPA is 2/3 of the way in and the SAT/ACT the remaining third.

Penn State: Match/High match

no, no mix up. Penn State states this. 2/3 1/3

http://admissions.psu.edu/apply/statistics/index.cfm

you are right that they state other factors but that is only if you are on the cliff…they get way too many applications to look at each and every one for more than a few seconds

But why would Penn State ask for a personal statement and an EC list if neither was taken into account in an admissions decision?

https://psu.intelliresponse.com/admissions/?requestType=NormalRequest&source=4&id=1487&question=Do+you+require+a+personal+statement+or+letters+of+recommendation

However I must concede that GPA is still the biggest factor, and then the SAT and then the rest.

Hey thanks guys for the responses. I’ve been a nervous wreck since I applied, so I’ll definitely respond on here once I get a decision (It’s still on “We are reviewing your credentials…” so I’m expecting it in November most likely). I tried to find comparable students on the forums, but a lot of them didn’t post decisions, so I for sure will. :)

To answer the questions by MYOS1634, I took an AP English Language/Composition class last year and got a 4 on the exam. I also have 3 AP courses this year (English Lit/Comp, Macroeconomics, and US gov), but the other 7 courses were just honors courses. I am not planning on applying anywhere else as of right now, but I am considering applying to some local schools. Penn State University Park is definitely my first choice though. :)

Also, I think Penn State considers the statement/activities basically if someone is on the verge of UP or getting in a branch. I know they have a ton of applications to get through, so it takes a while to get a decision, and then they probably also just focus on GPA/SAT or ACT, whichever you take.

Hello…

Status changed to “in coming days” Friday night, and I just found out tonight that I got into main for fall.

Thanks for your peace of mind!

congratulations :)

@megank95 when did you originally apply?

Nicely done!
