I'm in the third marking period of my junior year. I have roughly a 3.5-3.6 GPA and scored a 1750 on SAT. I plan to raise both a little before the end of the year. What are my chances of getting into Penn State Main? I live in PA and my dad is a profressor at PS (not main) if that helps.

I want to go for computer science. I was in chess club, FBLA, and on the track team. I am also taking Java, AP Computer Science, and have taken/will take 3-4 more AP courses and the rest honors course.

You’re sure to get into a branch campus however getting into PSU University Park is going to depend on your SAT score and how much you can raise that GPA by the end of this year. To be certain to get into UP with a 3.5-3.6 you’d need a 2000. Even taking into account your “faculty kin” status, I doubt they’d go below 1900. Penn State UP factors your GPA for 2/3 of the decision and it typically stops at your junior year grades so your best bet is to study very very hard and make sure you raise that GPA to a 3.7. At that point, with a 3.7 and a 1800, you’d get into UP because you meet their basic requirements and you have enough course rigor.
3.7/1800 should be doable, don’t you?
BTW “I was in … club” = if that means you’re no longer in the club, you need to get back into these or other clubs, and preferably have some kind of leadership position.
