Penn State vs. Delaware. So Confused!

I was accepted into Penn State UP regular decision and I just got off the waitlist for Delaware. At both schools I was accepted into the business school. Conventional wisdom has told me to choose PSU. This is because they have a top notch business school with a good rep. and good job placement. Their business school is much better than Udel's but then I ask myself, "What if I choose not to do business? What if I decide on a different major after being in college?" For me this would be awful because I would always wonder what it would have been like if I went to Delaware.

I really enjoy Udel because I am very comfortable there. I have been there more times that I can count because my brother is a senior there. I really love the campus, their location and the people. Not to mention a very good male-female ration(I'm a guy). I definitely prefer Udel's social scene. I am not trying to say PSU is crappy in these fields, but I just liked these things better at Delaware.

But then on the other hand I love school spirit so PSU football would be unbelievable.

I am just very confused. PSU seems to have better academics, but Delaware is more safe territory for me and I enjoy their social scene better. But then on the other hand I do not want to feel like I am following in my brother's footsteps. I want to pave my own college experience.

I guess I can ask my guidance counselor, but I think it will ultimately come down to his opinion on which school he likes better.

Non-related to financial aid, any advice, suggestions, etc. would be great because time is running out to see if I should pick Udel.

Thanks.

i picked psu over udel... i felt like it was a better school academically and smeal is amazing

Does UDel even rank in business? PSU is by far a better school and i am surprised that you were waitlisted by UDel and accepted into PSU smeal. This shouldn't be a question at all by academics in my opinion but we can't decide how much more you like Udel or if that outweighs the academic benefits of PSU.

I had a similar issue being that my parents are Udel Alumi although they did not push me anywhere at all. As far as advantages to Udel being social scene I found this to not exhist. I have spent a weekend at each (PSU with a friend and Udel with my cousin) and they seemed pretty similar. So if school spirit is your thing than PSU is the place. And besides it is better achidemically.

I know quite a few Penn State UP graduates (of all age groups) and it seems that one thing they have in common is they LOVE the school. My son is going there this fall. Not sure how UDEL grads feel. Sounds like you are confident that you will fit in socially at UDEL but it may be that you are in your "comfort zone" and are hesitant to try something new. Go with your gut and pick one - and then don't look back.

From your original post it sounds like you want to go to UDEL.

I was accepted to U Del into the business school and just offered a spot at Penn State (off the wait list). I was not accepted into the businss school at Penn State. I can transfer into the business program with a 3.0.

I am very confused. Should I take my chances at Penn State (hope I maintain a 3.0 and get into the business program) or go to U Del where I am already into the businss program.

Also, Penn State has admitted me for the summer program. Does anyone know if I can get out of going for the summer?

going for the summer is great. I will be ther for the second summer session and every person who said they started in the summer as a freshman loved it.
The summer makes the campus seem a lot smaller and you will meet so many people there. Don't worry, if penn state is your choice, the summer will be great for you. good luck with your decision!

Does PSU offer any merit Scholarships for OOS kids accepted into their business program ? If so, what kind of stats are needed ? Thanks. MBJ

plz quit hijacking the op and just create your own thread....
