Penn State vs Purdue

I'll be applying to both Purdue and Penn State for an engineering, but I want to know any pros and cons of both universities. I completely like them both, their academics, student life and campus( although Penn State consisting of a large number of campuses is confusing) Could you CCers comment on the student life, job placements and grad school admissions, and opportunities for practical work.

And I am an international student.

Can any one answer?

Penn State - the one you know - is the University Park campus. That is the main campus of the PSU system. The others are relatively cheaper for in state students and many commute to them to save money for their first 2 years then transfer to University Park after their Sophomore year is complete.

Both are ABET certified so your engineering education will be similar at either one. I can’t speak for Purdue as I don’t know much about it but I can speak for PSU. As far as career placement goes PSU boasts the largest dues paying alumni association in the world. The Bank Of America Career Services building on campus was also ranked #1 by Princeton review this past year for campus career services as well. The school is a national brand, its recognized across the country (mainly through athletics but also academically as well). Many folks who graduate from PSU cite connections they made with other grads to help them get jobs. I also believe the job fair that takes place every spring is the largest on campus career fair east of the Mississippi, and I’ve heard there’s actually a waiting list for companies to be able to come to the fair.

Student life wise there’s endless possibilities and I mean that in the least cliche form possible. There’s 40,000 undergrads. Something that you enjoy is almost certainly enjoyed by others and there’s likely a club to do with it. Sports are obviously a big part of student life but they don’t have to be. On fall Saturdays football obviously is the attraction but only 21,000 students out of the 40,000 have tickets anyway, so plenty aren’t at the games. Oh, and it gets cold. Really cold.

Thanks for your reply
Any one on Purdue?
