Penn State Vs. RIT

I'm from PA and have been accepted at both Penn State University Park and RIT. I am getting a $6,000 scholarship at RIT which will make the difference in costs not as high. I am somewhat leaning towards Penn State because of all of the activities and big-name sports that come along with it. I would like to hear your opinions on both schools. Thanks :).

RIT is a top engineering school and has a great hockey team. Won there conference in regular season but couldnt play in the tournment because its only there 2nd year in D1.

We visited both. I was pretty impressed with Penn State, however my son did not like it (too big, too sports-oriented). RIT is probably a better undergrad experience in that the classes will be smaller, etc., but the student life end of it will pale in comparison to Penn State.

What major?

I'm declared undecided currently at both but am interested in Information Sciences and Technology and Business.

Have you visited both?

I think you would be happier at Penn State. RIT is about 25% women and has less than a 60% graduation rate. Penn State students have about an 80% graduation rate and are closer to 50% women. If you are undecided about a major, Penn State has everything and RIT has a relatively limited curriculum. RIT is weak in the humanities and social sciences. Penn State has a beautiful campus. RIT's campus is austere...unattractive. Plus you get the in-state tuition at Penn State. It is a no-brainer.

Penn state by far they have a good IST program. Plus it will be much cheaper for you.

Penn State for sure

Thanks for all your opinions, it is helping in my selection :).

Ive got the same decision to make. Im looking into the IST major too. When I visited PSU over the summer, it was my favorite by far...until I went to RIT. I did an overnight stay open house type deal up there, and it was a great experience. Im from a relatively rural area in Delaware, so the population at PSU seems intimidating. Im still waiting to hear back from Cornell and Carnegie Mellon, but for now RIT seems to be the front runner for me. Plus they gave me money.

My decision so far is between RIT, PSU, Syracuse, and Delaware...then the two reaches if they say yes.

So yeah, I cant really help you decide too much, but I'm in the same boat.

colinennis-
RIT has over 15,000 students. That's pretty large. It is one of the largest private schools in the nation. How could it seem that much less intimidating than Penn State?

Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Penn State, and Syracuse would all be better experiences than RIT.
