Reputation and US News rankings are very, very different...

You are not fooling anyone jec7483.... we know that you are also bostonfan23.... weirdo.

Definitely not bostonfan23. I was just actually enjoying reading someone that knew what they talking about responding to your posts. I have never even been to Boston. I don't know why I would change names to question your knowledge, as this name is more than sufficient to allow me accomplish that. I don't even completely agree with what he/she said, as I do think the rankings of the schools play a large part in the decisions in job recruiting. If not, people would just completely ignore the rankings and pick places like Temple over Harvard because they thought it would be a better time and that it "fit" better. Also, I don't really reference the world rankings, as I haven't really looked at those. I mostly stick to rankings that compare factors of universities in the US. Don't come at me because there are other people out there that are actually sane and know you're wrong as well.

The list itself does not have to be taken literally, but it does give people a good idea of a school's reputation. For instance, is #23 UVA a better school than, say, #28 Wake Forest? Not necessarily, it depends on the major as well as the sort of school that a student is looking for. However, what the list shows is that UVA and Wake are on par with each other, thus reflecting their reputations as great universities. Incoming college students should look at rankings and at least consider them as a basis of what schools they would like to apply to.

Actually, I know of several people who did exactly that. I also have a friend who picked BU over Harvard. Harvard has the best name of any school in the world and is as recognizable as Coca Cola, but that doesn't mean it's for everyone...

"Actually, I know of several people who did exactly that. I also have a friend who picked BU over Harvard."

I guess it's true what they. You can get a fair assessment of someone by the company they keep. If someone actually did turn down Harvard for Temple for anything other than money, they are STUPID. Hell, I love Penn State, but anyone turning down Harvard for PSU would also be stupid. Please don't just make up stories to try to argue your point.

I'm not making up stories. Also, who the hell are you to call someone stupid for their college decision? You know there's someone on this site whose daughter turned down Yale for Rhodes, right? People turn down HYPSM all the time.

jec7483 (aka Bostonfan).... you seem like you need a hug.

Ha, I actually enjoyed your hug comment. Still not sure why you think I am bostonfan, though. I'm definitely not, though I do agree with parts of his/her posts. Were you one of diontech's friends that turned down Harvard for Temple?

jec... I'll agree with you on that one... thats kind of silly... I'd take out as many loans as it took to attend Harvard. Harvard is Harvard... thats all I have to say about that.

This is hilarious. I go to Temple and I love it here. Temple and Penn State are two completely different schools. Definitely a different scene at both. I live about 4 blocks off campus and sure it is a little rough at sometimes but you just have to be smart about it. The academics are great here and while they might not be as highly ranked as penn state the business school does have a very good reputation. You meet so many people here, people that you would never expect to talk to or even share a class with. I'm from a little town in central PA and coming to philly and specifically temple has opened my eyes to the world and its people.

I'm sure Penn state shares some of the diversity and may be better academically (not in all aspects). I have friends that go to penn state and have been to state college many times. The football games are great times. My roommate even got in and came here instead. We all say that it just isn't for us. Whether it be the bigger campus or the fairly homogeneous student body it just doesn't feel that great when I go there. I know that like every kid that goes there loves it but this is just my opinion. The parties there are ok but the frat guys are pretty much dicks. There is a certain cockyness that a lot of people have that go there, not all, but definitely some (like jec).

Anyway in my opinion they are both great schools with comparable programs... it just depends on the person.

wow, I was looking for the comparison of Penn state and Temple U… But i don’t want to read this waste of words, too much arguing. I go to Drexel and hate it, honestly hate it.
