Penn State vs. University of Delaware

looking for some advice on a decision of University of Delaware Lerner college of business and penn state smeal college of business. Smeal seems to have a better reputation, but what really makes it better? Just any info about the two schools and their internships/job placement. Obviously I like both schools but Udel is $16,000 a year cheaper than PSU… I know both schools are great just looking for any info that might sway me either way!

Check out Lerner. They just hired one of Penn State’s top business professors. Their internship program is really good; they have students working in some of the best companies in the country. In fact, JPMorgan Chase has funded an Innovation Center there and they hire around 100 students who get paid well according to what people say. The recruiters that go to the Ivy League schools go to UD on a regular basis and hire UD students more often than they hire the Ivy grads - or so it has been said. They have a really great study abroad program, too. Note - I work at Delaware but everything I’ve said can be checked out. I’d seriously consider Lerner.

$16,000 x 4 = $64,000 Where would that come from to pay for Penn State?

If that kind of money is chump change for your family, go to Penn State. If it isn’t, then go to U of Delaware.

I’m assuming you’re thinking about Penn State’s UP campus. At Smeal you will need to meet minimum entrance to major requirements for a Business major, even if you’re admitted to Smeal as a freshman. I believe it’s an overall 3.2 GPA (after 44 credits) and a minimum 3.2 GPA in 8 required classes (except for the Finance major which is a minimum 3.5 GPA). Not sure if at Delaware when you’re in the Business school there’s minimum requirements. If no min. requirements, that would be an advantage for Delaware.

Smeal is great, but it’s not Wharton and not worth an extra $64,000 IMHO over UDel, which has a good program in its own right.
