Penn State vs. University of north carolina - Charlotte for computer science.

I got accepted into Penn State- University Park for computer science. Its out state tuition is very expensive and i was wondering if going to UNCC for computer science(In State) will be better. I read that Penn State has a good computer science program but the cost for that is 50k, whereas the UNCC has an average computer science program but only costs around 15K. I was wondering which college should i choose?

What can you comfortably afford?

What other colleges did you apply to ? Penn State would be comparable to ncsu instate. Did you apply there ?
What is your parents’budget, out of pocket (what they can pay from income and from savings - no parent loans. )
Remember that you can take 5.5k in loans for your freshman year, that’s it.

UNCC is a decent school, and it gets the job done. In this case, choose UNCC. Stay in state.

UNC. As someone said in another thread, in CS your skills will matter to employers much more than the school you got the degree from. So save money and focus on honing your skills.

Is UNC-CH not an option? Probably would the best combination of low tuition and reputable CS program.

@Goldenbear : in this case, ncsu would be the best choice. So hopefully op applied.

If OP got into UNC he would probably get a full ride to UNC Charlotte. I say go to Charlotte. They’re not the best school out there but for engineering (and I assume CS as well) they are second to NC State in North Carolina. If you’re looking for a BA in CS instead of a BS, you should consider UNC Asheville.

@MYOS1634 I agree that generally NCSU is better for STEM since UNC-CH doesn’t offer engineering, however UNC-CH is very strong in CS (#25 in the grad rankings compared to NCSU’s #48).

@goldenbear2020 OP is applying for undergrad, so grad school ranking aren’t entirely relevant at this point.
