Can't decide between penn state and the unviversity of wisconsin-madison. I got into smeal but i cant apply for business at UW until after freshman year. I'm OOS NY. Any thoughts?

As a graduate of Smeal, obviously I would say go to Penn State. This has to do with more than school spirit though…

Smeal has been doing some awesome stuff lately. If you are interested in a Business degree, networking is a big deal. Smeal has corporate connections most schools could only dream of. Penn State has two big career fairs, one each semester at the Bryce Jordan Center. Smeal also has a couple of their own, one of which is tailored to Supply Chain majors, although everyone in Smeal is welcome. They also have many clubs that have corporate connections, like the Penn State Marketing Association, which works closely with many different companies. In addition, most of their research is corporate sponsored, so getting involved in that can provide some important networking opportunities.

I’m a current PSU senior in Smeal and I would advise you to go ANYWHERE else. PSU is a horrible place to got to school and you will regret coming here.

One unhappy student can’t be wrong.

University Park, Pa. – The Penn State Smeal College of Business ranks No. 1 among all undergraduate business programs, according to recruiters surveyed by Bloomberg Businessweek for the recruiter portion of its annual ranking of the country’s best undergraduate business programs, which was released March 3.
The magazine surveyed 246 recruiters, asking them to identify the programs with the best graduates, most innovative curriculum, and most effective career services. These results were combined with the recruiter surveys from the previous two years, and the end result ranked Smeal in first place for recruiter satisfaction.
This is the second No. 1 recruiter ranking for Penn State in the past six months. In September, the University earned the top spot in The Wall Street Journal. For that ranking, the newspaper surveyed 479 recruiters and asked them to identify the schools “whose bachelor degree graduates were the best-trained and educated, and best able to succeed once hired.”
In addition to the recruiter survey, the Businessweek rankings are based on student surveys and information provided by the schools. Overall, Smeal ranked 25th out of the 139 programs considered for the ranking – up four spots from last year. The college ranked ninth among publicly supported programs.

I am also considering whether I should go to Penn State or UW-Madison for an MBA specialized in supply chain… It is really a difficult decision…

IH8PSU’s screen name says it all- don’t know what his problem is but it seems PSU is out to get him. My D is from OOS and attending PSU and absolutely LOVES it there. Not in Smeal though so ask others about that aspect of PSU. However she does love the school, the town, the people, etc…

The undergrad placement data for UW and PSU are very similar with PSU placing more in the Northeast and UW in the Midwest. Salaries are very similar. Madison is larger and has more to do overall. Sports and school spirit are pretty even. Even weather is pretty equal. If you have a chance to visit both do it.

I’ve been to both places. Personally I like UW’s campus, it’s really pretty! But also huge so that’s probably a pain.

I’d like to add that Madison is probably the more interesting city. State College is a boring college town, while Madison is the capital of Wisconsin, although it still retains a bit of a small college town feel.
