Penn State, VT, NCSU, Or Rutgers for Mechanical Engineering?

Any opinions about which college would be the best for mechanical engineers?
(Internships, job recruiters, and program reputation)

I’m an international student so tuition is not really an issue here.

Do you have direct admission to the major?

If not, check what GPA you need to get into the major at each where you do not have direct admission.

Yes. I was accepted to COE of all of the colleges I’ve listed

At Penn State you’ll still need a 3.20 (currently) to apply to your major sophomore year. https://advising.psu.edu/entrance-major-requirements-college-engineering-2017

Thank you for your help! however, I was just wondering which college has the best program for Mechanical Engineering…

That’s very subjective and any answers you get are really just going to be the poster’s opinion. You could try looking up the lists of who comes to each school’s career fair to compare recruiting/internships.

bump

These are all good schools and you wouldn’t be starting out in mechanical at any of them. You may even change your mind about major after you complete the initial year of classes. I would focus on cost, logistics for you in getting to campus, and general fit. As noted , you could look up the Career Fair info. Also, Post Grad Surveys for the schools. VT’s Career Fair is called the Engineering Expo. They also have pretty detailed info on their Career Services website Post Graduation Survey (although not every graduate responds to those kinds of things). All are ABET accredited and that is most important. The current undergraduate engineering rankings would go VT, PSU, NCSU, Rutgers but that is not really that important. You should be able to find good opportunities at all of them. Good luck with the decision.

Thank you so much for your help!

NCSU is in a city, Penn State a college town about 4 hours from Philadelphia/ NYC/Baltimore/Pittsburgh/DC, VT is in a beautiful mountain area, and Rutgers, well, err, is not far from NYC in a rather suboptimal setting.
NCSU, Penn State, VT all have excellent reputation for Engineering and general academics.
So, in my opinion, Rutgers is the easiest to cross out.
After that, look at net cost. Which one is the cheapest/has the lowest net cost?

Thank you so much for your help! Net cost wouldn’t make much difference since It’d cost me 42k to go to PSU, 40k to NCSU and 38k to VT. I just want to know which college would support me the most to help me find the job after the graduation.

Penn State is supposed to have the best Alumni Network of all three, has an excellent Career center, and is well-recruited.
However Virginia Tech does offer a good value and is excellent.

VT has an excellent alumni network as well, one of the largest Career Fairs (Engineering Expo) in the country and is also very well recruited. You cannot go wrong with either school.

I agree. Since Virginia Tech is cheaper, it’s probably the best choice (best value).
