My son applied to Penn State three weeks ago. I just checked the website and it says that they reached a decision last week.

Is that a good sign, or is that a normal turnaround?

Anyone know how long it takes to get the decision in the mail?

hi I sent my application in on the second of november and I got my decision made on the 9th...and I got my letter in the mail of acceptance like on the 12th.. so you will receive your decision soon.. and that is normal.. my status also says that as well

apple 17...what state do you live in? the mail might of got lost in the mail or it might take months to send I am not sure.. but if you get a big letter that means your in if not you will get an envelope.. but if it was over a month I think you should call the admissions office and check up on whats happening.

I'll try to help with the timeline issue but your best bet is to call the admissions office like someone suggested. I live in Texas; I sent in my application on September 6th. They reached a decision on November 9th and I received my acceptance letter/packet/whatever today. That's a looong time but I think they were waiting for my counselor's supplement for some of that time.

apple17...trying to get same type of input but nobody answering the question. I don't see any posts from people that have been rejected yet have you? Was hoping anyone who knew of anyone else that got rejection letter would let me know.

Do they wait to send rejections and send acceptances first??? Does anyone out there know??

it looks to me like people don't post when they receive a rejection letter...or everyone who reads these forums is just super-qualified.
I'll let you know when we see something in the mail. Are you in PA?

Ok, the site said that a decision was made 'as of 11/11', the postmark on the envelop was 11/15 and we received it today.

I left it for my son. I wonder if it says 'congratulations' whether they could have assigned you to a different campus (my understanding is that sometimes they assign some candidates to other campuses).

apple...my understanding is that if you said "no" to other campus question or summer session, they would not send a congrats envelope...not sure though...let us know how it goes.

He was accepted to University Park (is that what it's called...main campus) Engineering college. He was worried though, the other kids at school had said that if it was taking this long to get the letter, it probably wasn't good news.

From a parent's perspective, it's nice to know there is a college he can go to with a decent reputation that doesn't cost $40K / year.

My D got into U Park as well. Sent app in the first week of Oct, online tracking was updated on 11/11 and we got the letter on 11/16.
Apple..I so agree with you on the cost factor. It's nice to have the acceptacne in hand, knowing that our kids can attend a great school and we won't have to spend 40 grand a year. Good luck to your son.
